Wow, a huge thank you to everyone - really gave me great ideas. Dear Hubby & I worked on putting a cage around this serviceberry shrub/tree, with steel fence posts & regular heavy wire (cage type) around the posts. Should keep out any deer. I was unsure about putting the netting around the wire again, but to be on the safe side I believe I will, as someone on a forum suggested this might be the cause. Whichever it is, I am putting up a fight to save my tree!!

P.S. By the way I live in Mid-Missouri and have lots of pasture on the other side of our property, so we do have deer problems sometimes, especially when our vegetable garden comes up!
