Thank you for your question. These are cement planters without a hole in the bottom. This makes them appropriate for indoor use as they are sold, although they are crafted for outdoors, as well. So if you will be using it outdoors, the hole can be safely drilled into the bottom using the appropriate method (i.e., applying water to keep the planter surface wet, keeping the drill bit wet, using a diamond drill bit, etc.). By keeping the drill bit wet, the surface wet and applying the drill slowly, the surface will not crack or break.

Because these are indoor/outdoor, they are crafted without the hole to prevent interior draining on floors. Outside you may need to create the hole to prevent overwatering, if the planter will be exposed to the elements.
