I need ideas for grow lights for citrus.

I have a few citrus trees, which I wish to keep indoors, and all I have is an East-facing window. I would like to supplement my trees with artificial grow lights, but the problem is, all of the ones which I have seen look big and clunky; just plain ugly. These citrus trees are kept in a bedroom, and such grow lights will completely ruin the design which I so carefully worked on perfecting. I would like to know an effective way, which also looks elegant, to supply my trees with light.

I sincerely doubt you're going to find what you're looking for, short of building your own LED fixture to match your decor.

Grow lights are generally one of three types: HID, fluorescent, or LED. You can look up pictures for all three types; LED lights will have the greatest variability in appearance.

Most do-it-yourself LED fixtures are built using COB LEDs these days, which are typically a white light and not the ugly purple.

Thank you! I will build my own grow lights if that's my only option. I can probably figure something out to hide them or make them look the slightest bit appealing. Which of the lightbulbs are the most effective in your opinion?

The Vero 29 and the Cree CXB3590 are both popular right now among the "medicinal" growers. If they work for that plant, they will work for citrus (and work well).

Keep in mind these are not exactly "lightbulbs" ... You will need several other components (a heatsink and a driver, I believe) to get these working. If you poke around online, you can find some websites that offer full kits for these sorts of lights - that include everything except the frame to mount them. Since you are planning to build your own fixture anyway, that could be a pretty good choice.

You may also want to poke around on the "medicinal" websites if you are planning to build your own LED light. You will find good information about lighting, regardless of your views about what they are growing. I wish I could provide you more information myself, but I am currently using HID lighting - the clunky fixture isn't an issue for me.

Thank you very much! I'll definitely have to do a lot of research to figure out what I'll do, how I'll do it, and what I'll use. I'll be sure to give post updates as to how I did it what I did.
