lighting layout fun

heres a layout of my first floor. i need to finalize lighting (and outlets) soon. being totally new to this, what is usually done in transitional style..not to modern, not too classic home.. and i like it bright.. walls will prob be lighter pallets of colors.. light grey and blue...etc..

1) in kitchen is it only high hats?

2)how close to cabinets (light grey colored) should they be placed

3)in living room and dining room, are only high hats used ..with a chandelier? do you need chandelier in living room

3a) any ceiling fans in l.r./d/r/??

4) in living room couch will be against wall in corner (no double door to study- the door was moved into d.r.) .. do i spread out lights equally, or put more lights over couch

5)in den - which will be the study, i also want to very bright.. is a fixture enough , or also high hats?

6) how far apart and how many high hats per room?

7) any specific size 3 or 4 inch...

i dont need such fancy upscale...etc just looking for a nice clean look all across.

Hello Y - we're in the midst of building a new home and just yesterday signed off. I'll share what we've spec'd but can't report on how happy we are with it. There are opinionated experts on Houzz that will surely comment. Plus, taking the time to read through old threads will provide a ton of information and background.

"Opinionated experts" ... experts willing to share their opinions. No offense intended and I've been grateful for all that I've learned.

Kitchen - could do heats only, but many people strongly recommend LED undercabinet lighting. We're doing high hats plus undercabs along with junction boxes over the island for eventual pendant/chandeliers.

Living Room/Dining Room - strong opinions about NOT using high hats for general lighting. Chandelier in dining room, most do. In our dining room, no high hats but an appropriately sized chandelier.

Note - we're going to put everything on dimmers, as we do in our current home.

Den - maybe a ceiling light but wouldn't suggest high hats.

Others can comment on numbers and sizes. There are really well written explanations in this forum. Good luck.

I suggest recessed lighting everywhere on dimmers. A19 15w led bulbs now put out 1600 lumens.

thanks..2 questions... why would you need dinners all over house.. if you want the lights on don't you want it bright and if to save electricity would it take save so much with LED and new lighting... also is under counter lighting so practical when working? is kitchen lighting not bright enough?

im thinking ceiling fan in center of living room with a few recessed for corners of room..

1)where would that fan (or chandelier - depending on how we go) be centered? in the middle of the room.. with 4 - 6 recessed lights in corners, or put fan closer to right side where couch would be, as there is a door on the left side of the room.. would that throw everything off center? or can i put the fan/chandelier centered off of dining room area (left side) and get away with only 2-3 recessed lights on left side by door? im guessing 6 inch cans?

2)would i want recessed and fan light on same switch? why or why not?
