Scupper Material and Source

Our pool has a simple European/Mediterranean feel...not ornate. We would like to have stone scuppers built into the columns at either end of the pool for water sounds. These stucco columns are topped with a limestone trim cap. We were thinking that the scupper would also be limestone but our builder has discouraged us from this material, saying it won't hold up in that application as well as precast concrete, and we can have that tinted to look more like stone. I have also seen metal ones but I'm concerned they will get ugly white calcium buildup from the hard water here. Does anyone have thoughts on which material is best? Also, does anyone have a good source for these? We were going to have a stone or precast company make them...we just need drawings/dimensions. Thanks!
