I spray with horticultural (mineral) oil a couple of times between mid December and early February. When I see scale, I switch to neem oil and spray in the evening and never before a hot (over 85F) day. This seems to have worked well at scale control.

I am curious if others apply the mineral oil during the hotter months?

I have noticed that the Horticultural Oil does not destroy my succulents like the Neem does...Love them both though..

I have both and have noticed that horticultural works better with the little flies, but neem kills mites and scale better. Do either one harm flower buds?

I never use neem, I strictly use Horticultural oil. The horticultural oil that I use is called Ultrapure Horticultural Oil, it is a narrow range paraffin based horticultural oil.

Well, my hort oil contents lists "mineral oil" and is labeled "dormant oil" and "all-season".

I used safflower oil last year....worked great controlling mature scale on citrus during a fall application.
