next steps in the bathroom

for those of you that have been hanging in there with me thank you! This is not a project I would have taken on right now it I didn't have to. I have just a lot going on, but the bathroom is leaking and the shower is unusable so there you go :)

I need to pick a vanity and hardware/plumbing color now!

bathroom pics as a reminder:

This is the tile we will be using:

I know it is not for everyone! :) it is the only thing DH and I can agree on and we have had tile samples down for 45 days I think.

so the vanity we have now seems "off" in tone from the rest of the woodwork in the room. there is the window trim, the bathroom door and two closet doors that have the same color trim as the window trim.

I could try to figure out how to match the stain better and re-stain the vanity we have. OR I could try to do something a bit rustic, in a totally different color so that it doesn't look like we tried to match (and potentially failed)

what do you think the wood trim around the windows is in my bathroom? is that a cherryish look?

I am thinking white would not look good even though against recommendations I will start with white walls (I can always paint them later) the tub will be white. I would like white undermount sinks with a some kind of black or charcoal kind of counter like this:

I actually like this vanity too. I like the ORB as well, and it looks like maybe silver in the shower. I have silver in the tub so maybe I can do that....

maybe a charcoal Vanity? I don't think I would like shiny black...

Any suggestions?

In my bath I gel stained my vanity and door at the same time so even though not the same species they still matched. Could you stain the trim, doors and vanity all with the same stain? I will try to mock up a version of your room with the charcoal vanity ;)

I like that pic you show with the black counter top (white tub) and it has white trim, which I think looks good with the tile, vanity, etc.

thanks roarah and Tina. I don't think we want to change the wood stain on the doors and the Windows. All the trim in the house is the same, and It is ok. Way better than my last house which was pretty blah. I am sure white or painted would be easier to decorate around but this goes with the house somehow ok to me! I am going to look for more charcoal vanities.

Oops, I really like the first one, more rustic vanity. It's lighter and less traditional.

I could see doing deep, earthy green vanity, heading toward teal. A friend of mine had wood counters made for her rustic bathrooms and installed vessel sinks in them. They're gorgeous. They look a little bit like this:

Be wary of a black counter. We have a shiny absolute black granite on our vanity. I was soo excited to get it. And now, I am so frustrated with it. It shows everything. Every water drop. Every speck of dust. I keep a fingertip towel rack on our sink with a cloth on it just for wiping down the counter, and I try to wipe it each time I use it. Even so, I feel like the counter looks awful most of the time. When we do our next bathroom, I'm seriously considering putting in a ho- hum one piece sink unit like you can get at the box stores since it's so much easier to keep those looking decent.

nosoccormom - no oops I want the feedback! :) Laughable - it is a good point. I had a black counter in my last house but it was laminate so not bad to keep clean. I have a black granite (not solid) in my kitchen in this house and I don't love it I have to say! I am not really a granite person I think :( I really loved corian in my old house in the kitchen, but I am not sure how it would be in the bathroom.

Roarah you are the best! ty so much - what do you all think?

I love the rustic cabinet with a charcoal countertop. It looks especially good with the ORB hardware. I wouldn't stress too much over having a white tub or white undermount sinks. It's done all the time and your bathroom is large enough to carry it. It's a fact of life that most tubs are white.

I like the gray cabinet ok, but think you'll have a harder time with a countertop selection.

Are you going with the same tile as the tub and in the shower?

Another vote for the rustic cabinet. I think that the gray makes the space look drab; the teal green is not bad.

It is funny - my husband thinks there is green in the tile. I just don't see it.

Roarah - thank you so much!!!! I think this really helps me see I think charcoal or the right wood tone will work. now I just need to pick which one! :)

the tile itself seems pretty busy. (not the best picture it is so bright in this room!)

We are planning to do the same busy tile in the shower and around the tub.

I like the rustic one - or at least the color of it - I don't know that I love that particular style.

I do like the charcoal one a lot too though. too boring, is that what you are thinking powermuffin? here it is with a black counter.

Are you replacing the vanity or refinishing your existing one? I love the Malibu!

I think we are going to replace it. I suppose if we like the charcoal look we could try to refinish the existing one, but I have not had much luck with that in the past and DH is being grumpy about it. :)

Let me know if you want any cut and pasted in your room. I like your tile selection it is refreshing to see something other than white subway and marble, which is actually what is in my house, but I really like the colors and natural tones in your selection they fit very well with your trim and your view!

thank you Roarah. I am going to show them To DH tonight. Hopefully this tile looks good :) I am kind of nervous about it! it is kind of intense! :)

I do love that white and marble look, but i just was not feeling it for this particular house! it sure would have been a lot easier to go that route though. :)

What do you think Roarah? :) I think the black one I had before was too formal. I kind of like these - and even the lighter one - does it still look too formal? I somehow think the lighter one comes across as rustic in the wood tone if that makes sense. they both come in the lighter tone and the darker tone.

Initially, I posted that I liked the rustic one best but deleted that because I generally never really like to influence another's decorating preferences for decorating should reflect you, the homeowner not the general public really. Now looking at the two I like them both for different reasons. I like the curve of the dark one but the tone of the wood one. Either is beautiful!

    Agreed with roarah.

I keep going back to the Arts and Crafts Master Suite inspiration photo. That vanity is my favorite if you can find something like that. I do like the lighter toned wood finish too though.
