I see 3 flowers on your lovely green papilio, are there 4?? It looks like you've got a clone similar to Jody's which had 3 flowers and was extremely green also!

This will be even better for pollinating your flowers as papilio regularly for most of us just gives 2 flowers; yours will give that extra chance for multiple flowers, a very welcome gene especially in papilios!! Good luck, I'm sure something will take!

This one has three flowers and 18 inch stalk.

I have some others having two flowers on short scape and others with narrow petals.

The next to bloom is this red with 5 buds, it is with me since long, it has scarlet red satin ish sheen in the middle which I have not been able to capture.

This one has 6 buds and 7 inches flower,

You may like it, I do.Camera did not catch exact colour (purple ting)

Choosing papilio to breed with will yield gorgeous flowers for you on what ever takes, good luck!!

I agree with trying to take pictures of red flowers, the pictures are never as nice as the flowers and often fail to show the darker tones. - J

Size has never been a goal for me. But for the breeders in The Netherlands... I think that uni-colored Hippeastrums should at least have something like frilly edges. Or a white rim. Or anything other "conspicuous" which makes them unique, and will set them apart from the bulk of Hippeastrums "as we know them" A private breeder will never compete with the accomplishments in sheer size as provided by Dutch Gardeners' Amaryllis like "Appleblossom", "Clown", (or was it "Carnival"?), and "Grand Cru", the first 2 florets on the umbel of which, can reach up to 30 cm in Diameter, namely from bulbs with undisturbed roots, forced outdoors during low temperatures. The "first" seedling is a Charisma-look-alike and as such a major accomplishment. The floral Segments are more rounded as compared to Charisma, and I like this shape.

My Hippeastrum cultivation is purely for my pleasure, My breeding programmes are basically because I do not have access to Hippeastrum bulb markets and very few mostly old varieties are imported by the local venders.

This year I have decided to drastically reduce my holding and donate most of the bulbs to my golf club.
