Beth, are the Vampire and Vampires Return Dave Bang roses? They are stunning . And Voluptuous is magnificent

Yes Kristine, those are Dave Bang's roses. He sent me those about 4yrs ago. I had been encouraging him to market his roses. I told him there were a lot of people who love the stripeys, and his are particularly beautiful, whether they are minis or large flowered roses. I offered to "test" some of the roses, so he let me purchase a few of them. He sent me these two, plus A NIGHT OF MAGIC, CODE OF HONOR and several other unusual stripeys that probably won't get marketed. They are mostly mini singles in varying blends of burgundy and white or red and pink. Some have done well, and others are taking forever to do anything. But that's to no fault of his roses. I just haven't had the time to properly feed and cultivate them. The last few yrs have been very hectic and stressful, with my mom having gotten bed-ridden and needing more care between all the family members. But with her passing last yr, now I can get back into better caring for the whole yard. If the weather will ever cooperate!

Oh and apparently Dave has sent his roses to For the Love of Roses to be tested and marketed. They keep showing them on Facebook, teasing everybody with them!! I love it! I haven't kept in touch with him the last few yrs, but I'm just so glad he has found a good place to sell his beauties. I will definitely buy many of them as soon as they get them named and available!!

I am excited about his roses as well. I love the two you have posted. They are so unique and velvety looking. But you have an incredible assortment of roses. How many do you have.

I am so sorry about your mother. You are a good and faithful daughter to have taken care of her. May you be blessed for your faithfulness.

Thanks Kristine! We were expecting Mom to go the last several yrs. She died at 98. Had dementia and diabetes and all sorts of ailments. My younger son and my niece were the main caregivers, but we all had to be on call all the time. As much as I love her, it really was a blessing that she finally went. She's no longer in pain, and she's with the rest of her family members who went before her, including my dad. So it's a better place for us all. We can all get on with our lives until it's our turn to go be with her.

As for the roses, according to HMF I have well over 1700, but that's not counting the duplicates and unknowns and the ones HMF simply does not have on their site yet. I'm sure it's closer to 1800, especially with all the new ones I'm adding this season! This is gonna be my last hurrah for a long time. Now that I (hope) I'll have more time to work out in the yard, they won't be neglected as badly and I won't lose as many as I have the last few yrs. Only time will tell tho....

1800 roses. Which day do you eat? What day do you get to sleep?.

Because I am pretty sure that doesn't happen on the same day lol

Your roses are already so beautiful. I can only imagine how they will thrive when you have more time.

Your Mom lived a great long life. You were blessed to have her for such a long time. Did you get your love of roses from her?

Hah Kristine actually my rose obsession started after we moved into the old mobile home park when my husband got out of the Navy almost 30yrs ago. There was this one lonely rose bush planted next to the electrical tower, and I decided to move it away from there. Then I started seeing potted roses at various big box stores all over the place, and bought a few. When one bloomed wrong according to the label on it, I bought a Sunset book on Roses to try to ID it, and that's when I found out there were so many different colors and types of roses. Research after research, book after book, and joining the ARS. That was the beginning of my obsession. And what really got me excited was hearing about Kim Rupert and his collection of "coffee" colored roses. I have always like the unusual and when I first saw BUTTERSCOTCH CL at the local Home Club, I was totally hooked on what I now call the "oddball" colored roses.... And then when I found out there were striped roses.... Holy cow!

You will love DICK CLARK. He's a real beauty. I saw someone here on the forum a few yrs ago had one that was reverting to FOURTH OF JULY and had faint stripes. I wish mine would do that!! And the VOLUPTUOUS was a mismarked rose I got from Witherspoon Rose Culture. It was supposed to be SECRET'S OUT.
