Can I grow an evergreen Clematis here without taking over patio?

Hello

I am looking for a vine that:

1) won't climb bricks (i.e won't destroy my home :))

2) that is evergreen

3) I have a 10-15 foot space I would like to grown this vine on. It's only 1-2 feet deep.

A)is this deep enough of a space?

B) I see they can grow up to 20 feet. Are they containable? Could I keep trimmed to the space?

4) This is a wooden fence i share with a neighbor. Is this thing going to leave the trellis and explode over the fence onto their property?

5) Am i going to attract every bee in the neighborhood? We have patio furniture near this wall :)

If not containable could a maybe a winter hardy camelia be better on a trellis instead?

I want this whole wall taken up by a vine that is ever green.

Can you let us know where you are located? Evergreen clems tend to be somewhat tender compared to the other types........usually just to zone 7 but can suffer some foliar damage and dieback in that zone so I consider them marginal.

I don'y think that space is big enough. Clematis armandi gets much bigger than 20'....that is a pretty low estimate :-) And a vine that produces that much top growth also has a sizeable root system so as long as it has sufficient soil depth and you can allow it to spread its roots sideways, you might get it planted in that narrow bed but it will grow well over the top of the fence (or carefully trained along the top), but it will cascade over onto your neighbor's side as well.

This is a no-prune type. You can prune it back immediately after it blooms but doing that consistently will reduce flowering. And it flowers very early - end of March in my climate - so not much worry about bees when you are sitting out on your patio :-))

The camellia might be a better fit.

Ok. So maybe Camellia is a better fit.

Question about that. So our garden gets no real sun in the winter. But the rest of the year, from April-sometime in late fall each wall of our patio area gets a few hours of sun a day.

If I were to get this one for example:

And it blooms from fall to winter and for half of that bloom time there is no sun, will it still bloom? I says filtered sun. It's not 'dark' out patio, just no direct sunlight in the winter months.

Also, how long do Camellia's take to grow? If I planted a three foot one, how long until 8-10 feet high? They pretty slow? I'd like something that grows fairly quickly if possible. Thanks!

I had 'Yuletide' in a zone where bougainvilleas never even had frost damage. It was planted from a 1 gallon can and after 6 years still wasn't 5 feet tall. Camellias are slow growers. I have seen the dbl. pink 'Debutant' for sale already espaliered on a trellis. Gorgeous. What is your zone?
