Hi there,

I have a grocery-store phalaenopsis that I recently repotted from broken down sphagnum etc. It had three strong healthy roots on one side only, so it was very loose in its pot. After repotting, it is putting out 5 new roots, 4 of which are coming from the base of the leaves (pic). The three previously healthy roots have all died (visible in pic), drying up at the point of connection with the rest of the plant (even though they are white and firm below the bark I repotted in--so overwatering/rotting probably not the cause).

My question is, should I remove the dry threads connecting the old roots from the bottom of the plant and reseat it so the new roots are below the surface of the media? Will roots regrow from the brown base of the plant?
