I bought a large money tree from lowes and was also hesitant to prune it but needed to in order for it to fill out in more areas and give it a better shape overall. Ive been very pleased with how its doing since I pruned it, TONS of new leaves. Mine didn't have tall thick branches like yours, I would trim those back some and pluck any leaves in areas you want to get more activity in. I snapped the leaves at their base which didnt seem to traumatize the plant. The new growth on mine is much more compact/ closer to the branch though. I'm not sure if they'll continue to get longer over time or not.

I would probably just shorten the tallest branches. Cut lower than the existing foliage top, to allow for the extending growth to match up with the rest of the crown/canopy.

Growth will be sturdier and more compact if you wait a few months to prune.
