Jenn-AIr was sold to Whirlpool. They used to be great appliances...not sure any longer.

Aren't KitchenAid and Jenn Air both owned by Whirlpool? Are the repair records similar?

I agree with Patricia. Bosch is best dishwasher. We went with Wolf for induction cooktop, microwave hood, and wall oven and are very happy. Kenmore Elite frig. We like to cook so we splurged on Wolf. The Wolf are mostly black with stainless trim and while the dishwasher and frig don't match exactly they are far enough apart for it to be unnoticeable.

KitchenAid and Jennair appliances are both made by Whirpool and they are exactly the same other than for cosmetic details such as handles and other finishes. Jennair is perceived to be a higher end brand so have a higher price point than KitchenAid, but in terms of technical specifications and performance they are one and the same. For my taste the Jennair appliances do look nicer so the decision between Jennair and KitchenAid really depends on whether you like the Jennair look better and are willing to pay the higher price point for it.

We've had JennAir for many many years. The last lot..oven, micro, dishwasher, gas cooktop are about 7 years old. No issues so far. This may be the case with all downdraft gas cooktops...the downdraft sucks a lot of the heat and flame down with it when it's on, so you have to use higher heat.

I'm doing a full kitchen remodel and have considered saving money by switching away from Miele and going with Jennair. My main concern is the quality of their Oven/Micro combo. Does anyone have theirs and what do you think about it? Also, how do you rate their dishwasher?

I have had a JennAir frog for 25 years (knock on wood) and still going strong but afraid they are not made like before, especially if they were sold to Whirlpool as my washers from whirlpool lasted about 5 yrs

Patricia: I had the same experience with a Bosch I purchased. It has such a good reputation and our TV is in same open Kitchen-Family Room, so a quiet dishwasher was a plus. But I had to switch in out because I felt the same as you about the extent of it drying ability with it's evaporation method. Apparently some dishwasher like Bosch, do not have a heating coil. I traded it for a Jenn-air and it's served me well. It also had "the look" I preferred.

I recently remodeled and the jenn air appliances I purchased had a Bosch dishwasher (inside). I couldn’t find kitchen aide that had the same high end capabilities (WiFi etc) as jenn air - so it’s confusing when people say if you are comparing to go with kitchen aide. In my experience they didn’t offer the same features. For instance kitchen aide didn’t offer a French door that had both water and ice on the outside that was cabinet depth that I could have trimmed.

I have a 36 inch Kitchenaid cooktop that I love, but I also have Kitchenaid double self-cleaning ovens. All of these are only two years old. I recently used the self-clean cycle (not the first time), to clean the bottom oven. It went out. For some reason it got too hot, tripping BOTH breakers, even though the other oven was not being used. The technician did not realize that both ovens have their own thermal breaker and by the time he figured it out I had been without an oven for a week.

I agree with the post that says one manufacturer cannot make the best of every appliance; however, if you are planning on selling the home, buyers do look for matched appliances. Something to think about.

We just completed a kitchen remodel and went with Jenn Air everything except the microwave because we wanted the Sharp drawer micro. The dishwasher is very quiet and does a great job. We have a Miele dishwasher in a second home and it works great also. I think the Jenn Air dishwasher is larger.
The only problem we had with the Jenn Air appliances is the oven stopped heating up after 1 year and had to have a board replaced. Once that was done, it works perfectly. The damper in the fridge is a bit noisy but the technician that repaired the oven said it sounded normal to him. Who knows??
