I am a big fan of craigslist. If it is sold just keep looking another one will show up. Maybe not at that price, but keep looking = ) I got a beautiful set of 3 parlor chairs, in like new condition, for $100. You can only see 2 in the picture.

Jenni, Those are beautiful chairs. I would say you got a great deal on them. I agree sometimes you can find some great things. I have a couple of stores that I have found that you never know what's going to be in there that I will look in too. It's really all about the trill of the hunt!!!

I feel more importantly the style doesn't go with your furniture and it's to light in scale.

I did discover from borrowing that table and trying all the different shapes and types of tables (rectangle, ottoman, and the round) that I do like the way the round looked. So...drum roll please I am looking for a round coffee table!

I agreed from the start for a round table or a oval.

Love how the room is turning out. Another source for large inexpensive mirrors is Lowe's and Home Depots. I got a large bamboo edged mirror in the bathroom section that started out over the fireplace but wound up in a remodeled bath for less than $100. Also, Home Goods carries a lot of large sizes if you have one in your area.

Round table for sure... With little ones you really need to be careful in that part of the room... I know all too well what can happen... Craigslist is the way to go... It might take time, and you might need to refinish, but the deals you get can't be better... Good Luck! You have done an awesome job!

If you have a Big Lots in your area sometimes you can get some great deals, I have bought Ethan Allen things there for 75% less than the real store.

Do you have any outlet stores? I have 2 huge mirrors that were to be on dressers with pediment tops on my walls, they are beautiful. I got an oak one for $35 and a Cherry one for $15 at J.C, Penny outlet.

Oh happy day...the person with the round table with the marble on top still has it. I am working on coming up with a time to go see. We do have a few Home Goods here and yes they do have big mirrors from time to time. We do have Big Lots too. We actually have a Big Lots Furniture store on the other side of town. Haven't been to it before but I didn't realize they carried Ethan Allen...who knew. Kevin, yes you are right round is the way to go but I am stubborn and have to try everything. It drives my husband nuts!

Big Lots varies a lot in their in the stuff they carry. It's a gamble sometimes but you can be surprised. I hope you get that table from Craigs list..

These are always my favorite posts. Looking for a coffee table and you get so much more. You wanted something more modern but found what looks to be perfect fit for the newly arranged room.

Going to see the coffee table tonight. Keep you fingers crossed that its a winner!

Did you find out if the top is actually marble or something else? It looks like it's in great shape.

It's a beautiful table that looks more like $800 than $25.

I don't know if its real marble or not. I am going tonight after dinner to see it. I ink its a beautiful table at a even more beautiful price! I went to a couple antique store today and saw a couple that I liked but obviously the were much more expensive. One of them had a crack in the wood and the other one had a crack in the marble. I do know that this one isn't cracked cause I did ask because its a little bit of a drive so I didn't want to go if it had problems. I am very excited.

You could use a chest for a coffee table, that way you would also have extra storage...or a storage ottoman, I have some that the top flips over & is a tray....that way you have storage/seating/footrest/table all together.

Here's the bargain table! let me say that piece of marble on the top weighs a TON! I like the style of the table but not sure I like the finish. It's kinda bronze colored.

You can always tone it down with darker stain... If it's heavy, it's marble... Looks great! You did good!
Now for the really fun part....

The room needed some lightening up so there you have it and if you take the same photo in the light of day (and please pull those chairs back so they don't overlap the sofa, all will be well! Add a light colored pillow to the sofa for balance.

Thanks you Carolyn for all your help. I appreciate it so much. I think it looks great. I am going to take my time and find something for over the fireplace. My neighbor is having some things done at her house and the guys does drywall so I am going to get a estimate when he starts he project to get the niche filled in. Now that the living room is so different than the way it was before with our things vs my moms my next project is going to have to be a new kitchen table because what's in there now goes with NOTHING!! A kitchen remodel is also in order but we just put in a pool so that is on hold for a while.

I think it looks great - the size is perfect. I figured it would be real marble and heavy. I have an antique table with a marble top - it's very nice and very heavy. Great job! I love it! What a huge, huge difference in your room since the beginning (for a lot of work moving stuff and $25). Awesome!

You could use brown shoe polish on the gold to tone down the gold wood . If you feel there's to much gold. I love though ! Such a great bargain !!!

Brown shoe polish really? I was going to see if the color grew on me. Now I need to find a table to match some chairs that were my moms. Now my kitchen table looks terrible being so close to my new living room.

The table is perfect. Size is great! I'd probably leave the color as I like different woods and tones. Maybe add some white in a couple of accessories or printed pillows with lots of white.

I know it's on the small size but it is a antique also and was my Moms. I have antique lamps everywhere in the house. The only new lamp is in my sons room. I love old lamps. Gotta work on a kitchen table now since the current one is not working with the new living room!

Here's a photo of my current dining set which before my moms furniture was great in the adjoining kitchen but now it's just awful. I have 4 of these wood chairs which I am not opposed to painting and obviously changing the fabric to something more contemporary. Now I just need a table for the chairs. I was thinking a farmhouse type table. But not sure.

Do you actually have space for a rectangular table, which most farmhouse tables are? If so, how big can you go? What size is the current glass topped table?

The current table is 41 1/2 by 66. The glass table has 6 chairs which is nice. It's just my husband and I andhe 2 kids but its nice to have the extra chairs in case we have company which is not that often. Round tables don't work in this spot.

Well, I hate to sound like a broken record but, if you have any outlet stores they have tables at excellent prices because they don't have chairs. I have a oblong double pedestal table with rounded corners that works well for extra people because you can seat folks around the corners if needed. Then, as you know, Craigslist =) have fun!

Jenni, do you have a Habitat for Humanity Restore near you? that's a great place to find odd ball stuff. You just never know what they will have. Not 100 percent sure what to get yet so don't know what to look for on CL. But after my bargain coffee table....it might be my new BFF! LOL

I bet you'll have no trouble finding a table on CL. You did a fantastic job finding the coffee table. The chairs you're working with will be beautiful. They remind me a little of another recent post for a dining room transformation where the chairs turned out so nice.

Consider placing one chair so that it faces the corner cabinet (arm touching the sofa arm). My instinct is to place the 2nd chair between the cabinet & FP. Wish I could be standing in the room with you! lol Love the dining chairs, too. Maybe your old table can serve as a funky base for a new wooden table top. Is the TV stand an old bamboo piece? I love it! will the TV hang to the right of the FP? Then you would have room for another one of your Mom's pieces - Maybe? :)

I am happy where the furniture is in the living room now. I didn't want to put the TV on the wall. The bamboo cabinet is not a old piece. I didn't want to use a piece of my moms for that cause we actually drilled holes in the back of the bamboo cabinet. It has all of our stereo and DVD equipment inside. That would be a no no for me to deface a antique for that! LOL

I can't use the table base of the old cabinet cause this set is worth money!!!mid century modern is hot in our area. I have already been offered a lot more for it than I paid for it.

About the TV above the fireplace. It would be a project. But dry wall in the little arch above the fireplace. This would give you a flatter surface to not hang the TV so high. Would look nicer and cleaner too.

And the table. Find something cheap. Yard sales. Thrift stores. Then if the kids happen to bang it up it won't be a big deal to you. My kids are two and four. And there are some dings in things!

We had the TV above the fireplace and had it on the mantle. Not a fan. It's to high just sitting on the mantle. Gotta figure out what exactly I want for a table so I can shop. But I would agree you can find some amazing stuff that you can put a little work into and have something great!

Our family room and living room are flipped so this was the family room but now is the living room

I guess what I am getting at is do you need a TV in this room? Not having a TV really opens up they way things can be arranged. Having a room without a TV makes for wonderful conversation, board games, book reading etc.

We don't really use the room only every once in a while. We like the TV in there cause if my daughter and I want to watch one thing and my husband and son want to watch something else they can.
