Brown / Gray Leaves on Rhododendron

Hi, I planted 3 dwarf rhododendrons in Fall of 2015 (Atlanta, GA - zone 7b / 8a). I actually do not know the exact variety - they are blooming now so i will take a picture and create another post and hopefully get an id. Some of the leaves have turned brown (and eventually gray) on the plants. I believe this began late summer or early fall of 2016? Some of the leaves have been gray for some time now and haven't fallen off. Other than these leaves the plant appears to be healthy and is blooming. Photo was taken this week. We had a really hot and dry summer in 2016 and i was not great about watering. Do you think this is just a case of some sunburn or maybe too dry? Plants are located near the front of my house (faces east). They get morning sun until about 1pm. Thanks!

Dave

I believe this photo is low res enough where it will not show but ignore any small white spots - that is over spray from getting the house painted.
