This is my living, family room. I think it is boring. Feels like missing something. I wanted to make it fresh. What can i do?? Change wall color? Furniture arrangement? I need some advice.

I'd change the cushions. In the first pic i see a dark green cushion on the bottom ?? The rugs r too traditional for me. I'd go for sthng plainer. And the entertainment centre is white, i'd bring some white on the couch as well along with the bottle green

Also what do I put this area?

Start by tying the two areas together with similar but not identical area rugs - quite large - maybe similar to the four below. Paint a warm color from the rugs on your walls I would rework the built-ins by removing the shelves on the far right that are designed like wine storage. Put in regular shelves, then style with 1/3 books, 1/3 decor items and 1/3 open space. Upgrade the hardware on it so it isn't so much kitchen cabinet style. Paint the back walls of the shelves in an accent color from the rugs. They are very deep so a bright color might help, and you could have false backs put in them so they are more shallow. Buy a lighted curio cabinet for your collections of smalls or keepsakes. Mount your TV on a swing arm so it can be adjusted for better viewing from every angle. Add two comfy swivel chairs opposite the window. Get a round glass coffee table and place it 18" from the sofa. I'd edit the items on the ladder shelf so I could remove it; seems dated and they always look flimsy when loaded down. Move the mirrored starburst above the mantel, but consider covering the beadboard with a smooth finish - drywall or even luan - to remove the cottage/beachy feel which won't go with the starburst style. Move the large piece behind the piano area to where the starburst was but about 6" above the cabinet. Make sure the pieces flanking the window have their centers 60" above the floor. They seem a bit high to me.

You could add more character and interest to the room through wall art you and your guests would enjoy. For art and color inspiration you can check out our Houzz page. Enjoy and good luck updating your room!... Raisa

The pictures hanging on either side of the window are too small for the space. You could hang them next to each other above the fireplace or hang a mirror and then layer the mantle with fresh flowers, pictures, candles, etc (see photo). Move the table under the window behind the sofa, this will fill the space behind the sofa a little better and add visual depth. Hang floor length curtains to warm up the space. If your budget allows, invest in a chaise lounge and place it under the window with a lamp behind it (see photo). Good luck!

This is a view from kitchen. I don't like kitchen wall color either. I need to work it out.

I like the white colour a lot as it makes the room feel fresh and more spacious

    I hung a round mirror. How's it?
    Is it too small?

I'm no expert, but here my 2 cents:
There are too many blacks in the room -- add decoration that is reflective, put the starburst mirror thing on top of the fireplace. It's nice to have a medium size to big round coffee table that is silverish metal color. Add floor lamp and colored pillows to make it cozy. Reduce or eliminate the smaller furniture and small framed pictures, this includes the small potted flowers. You could do grouping of framed pictures but try not to put one small here and one small there. The piano looks better facing the living room rather than facing the corner. Put big stacked books on your shelves.

Browse some pictures of rooms that inspire you and see how people style their living room shelves. Make the changes and it should transform the room without having to spend money much. The kitchen wall can be painted in light color.

beautiful piano! i would turn it around and run it along the wall to get it away from the window and lift its top so that the sound goes into teh room. next I would get another chair of a different style for the other side of the fireplace. The rug in the FR is fine but I would get a larger one for the music room. A large painting hung on teh wall next to the piano will add interest and depth to the room by layering. The round nmirror over the FP is not adding anything to the room. YOu need art work there for visual interest as well as throughout the room. Fill you r bookcases with books and smalls. I saw a rule of thumb on houzz of 1/3 books/ 1/3 decorative items/ 1/3 open space. Also put some wine bottles in the wine bins with the crossed X. I love the persimmon colored walls in the kitchen and at night it looks really great when lit. Carry that color into the three rooms. Use a pale blue or any blue as an accent color generously so the rooms wont look so halloween with the black and persimmon color. great start!

Starting in the Piano room, center the Piano in the middle of the room and if possible purchaser a bigger patterned rug and an attractive chandelier( I'll post some pics). Then move the storage unit in the right wall to the center of the wall and hang some artwork. Now to me, the Piano itself should be the center of attention in this room, so I wouldn't distract the sight with colors or strong patterns on the wall. I would change the wall color to grey and place only white accessories on the storage piece. I would remove the storage piece between the two windows and place a big white ornate mirror instead and put neutral blinds on the windows
P.S. I'll go to the living room later I have to wake up my kids

For the family room, remove everything from the wall unit and paint the back of the unit an eye-catching color like teal! I would paint the brick white but this is only your preference (as in the pic) remove the leather chair and its stool to the opposite side and center the coffee table in the middle of the room facing the fireplace. Hang soft white curtains but first you can paint the wall of the window a dark grey. I think the rug should be changed. The mirror above the fireplace is ok even though I would put a bigger one. Redecorate the wall unit with white and teal accessories if you chose the teal for the back of the wall unit.

You may place a rug with a touch of color in the piano room to unite both rooms
