I think it was repotted way below the soil line. I think those are roots that need to be covered up.

Cleo in all likelihood is the rootstock, short for Cleopatra Mandarin. Some info on this rootstock...

So I just looked around the web and found out trees grafted on Cleopatra mandarin rootstock are slower to fruit and the fruit will be smaller in size. This does not sound good to me.

Repotted in 511 mix today. First time using anything other than store bought potting mix. I used repti bark and miracle grow perlite. The perlite is not coarse at all. I hope this wont be a problem.

There was a seperation between the original nursery mix which was very dry coco husk chips and some bark surounded by the wet potting mix that the store up potted in.

The roots were tight in the shape of a skinny nursery tall tree pot. I tried to flay out the roots but the main big roots were kind of woody and resisted it. I spread them a bit but not as much as i would have wanted. After watering in the plant, most of the peat washed down below the surface leaving the top layer with just bark and perlite which tends to float up. I dusted the surface with a little more peat. I hope this isnt the wrong thing to do. Considering that repti bark doesnt have much of the very fine dust size particles i think this should be ok if it has a bit of extra peat.

This 511 mix doesnt have very good inital holding power at all. I wanted to leave the plant outside but the smallest breeze wanted to uproot the plant from the pot. I put the tree back inside to let the roots grow and anchor itself a little better before I put it outside again.

Did you soak your bark overnight? I think once it is thoroughly wet it will keep your tree more stable.

Soaked for 2 days then drained and mixed up. After mixing in lime I added some water to wet the mix and let it sit for over a week. Wet it twice during the waiting period.

It will probably get more stable in a few weeks. When I have an unstable tree like that I put several stakes around the edge and tie it loosely to each for more support for a couple of weeks. Sometimes I run a string or wire from stake to stake and the branches leaning on the string give the tree a little more stability. Your tree will most likely be fine soon. Good luck.
