First, despite the common name, Eremurus are NOT lilies but fleshy rooted perennials. And they need very well drained, almost sandy soils and a fair amount of sun. The starfish shaped roots are quite brittle so need care when handling. I am also not sure if these will be hardy for you - usually listed to only zone 5 and will require a good winter mulch in that zone.

I have grown a couple of kinds right on the zone 4-5 boundary, but I don't think all will be hardy enough ass GG48 says. I generally have good snow cover, and they also were mulched. They disappeared after a few years, which may have been hardiness issues, but I think was more likely that they were eaten by voles.

Hmmm I'm having second thoughts about trying these. I have a big garden and don't need something that's going to take this much trouble. They are really neat though. Wish they weren't so difficult.
