on a side note the leaves were more of a light pink when i brought it home and it seemed like more of the plant was pink than it is now. the light pink has turned into more of a darker pink/almost red color. anyway to get it back to light pink?

Unless plants are getting rained on outside or a shower inside during winter, I keep foliage dry. That will prevent any surface pathogen from having a heyday on the foliage.

But for now, I would shower it thoroughly so you can assess what is on it. I got an aphid vibe looking at your pics. Aphids are no match for a vigorous shower. If necessary to do inside, you can lay plant on its' side to access the foliage more easily. An alternative would be to clean the crevices with q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol. Removes dirt & soft pests like aphids, spider mites, scale in soft stage.

Then you can know if something shows up on it again. Hopefully just potting soil like you said but some of the white bits could be shed aphid skins.

Agree about the light. These trees are where the sun shines right on them for a few hours in the morning. Don't increase too drastically, leaves can sunburn, an ugly condition that compromises appearance for a while. Adjust gradually if potential for more light exists, or if considering taking outside during the warm season. (The thing in the front is an air plant, stuck between the trunks. Not part of this discussion but it shares the pot.)

The more light, the more intense the color of whichever variation you have. Mine is 'Tricolor.' Yours looks like a diff one.

If I were you I'd treat for spider mites. They prefer tender new growth.

Looks like the same condition Cordyline australis often gets in my area. I don't think it's insects or mites. Planting (there are 3 in the pot) definitely needs a larger container at any rate, spring is the time to re pot.

Hi im also getting just the discoloration at the top of my plant that just started happening, i know it does not get a whole ton of sunlight so im hoping this is the reason and its not pests, seeing that this post was six years ago, i was hoping you had an answer and remember solving it…
