Trailer Love

We see some pretty fancy stuff here. Well let me take you to the other side, 60s mobile home with a Home Depot cabinet reface just completed:

Yes, those are some of the Mernard's butcher block blanks leaning against the peninsula.

Peninsula seam close up.

I had to add the returns at the stove and the wall from rips from the sink blank.

A tiny seam at the sink. It was that or a full 25 1/4"er. You can't even see it:

Mr. Level was not happy on this job. I had to ignore him, but at least we're on plane. HD wouldn't do the tops because she didn't buy them from them. If you want level, you'd better do your tops before your reface.

Of course the shutoff valves didn't work which meant I couldn't pull the faucet and sink until I replaced them. Not in the deal, but I ate the time they took. Of course the main shutoff dripped in the driveway. we're in the trailer park. I'll let the plumber handle that too. She was happy enough to give me a small tip, so that's something.

P.S.:

I think the light fixtures are staying even though I managed to short one out by whacking it with a top. This lady's got an older gentleman who's obviously sweet on her. He told me he's got my back on that one. He's getting backsplash duty, so they must be an item.

I'm sure Jan Moyer is going to be pleased to hear that. My elderly client told me this was one of Jan's first design jobs when she was just starting out.

I was hoping that the orange was the after. Even though the butcher block is nice the orange is gorgeous.

I have Menard's butcherblock on my island. It has held up very well - though I don't have a sink in it. I hope the owner has the mineral oil and wax to treat it.

I've been toying with getting some more of my quartz and doing the island. Couldn't afford it last year but now...

Orange isn't my thing but it looked great, especially with the light fixtures. You did a fantastic job as usual.

Add me to the ones that loved the orange.

Yep, another that loved the orange. Should have kept the orange and changed the BS.

It was probably worn out...although if the cabinets were good enough quality to reface, maybe the whole thing was well-preserved. The light fixtures are great. What do you call that metal stuff on them? Tole? I need 3. :)

I would of kept the orange counters! They were so cool Brady Bunch! Butcher block is nice too but the orange had much more style.

I get corrected a time or two every now and then, but sometimes I just can't resist telling a great big whopper just to see who's paying attention. I'm sure you'll pay me back; I'd be disappointed if you didn't.

I grew up in a house with those same orange countertops. Love em.

The orange looked fine in that setting, but I really like the new counter top.

That looks great! I have a butcher block from Menard's in my lower level laundry. It's my second laundry room and isn't used much except for washing cleaning rags and other yucky stuff, so I did a rehab of the room on the cheap. But I LOVE the b block! Looks great and looks more pricey than the $150 it cost for an 8' counter. I just stained and sealed it in my garage then carried it downstairs with some help from my guy. I was lucky that it fit exactly in the room between two walls. I'd love to use that b block again somewhere else - it's really nice.

Great job on the mobile home! Love seeing 'the other side.'

Nice installation but I must confess, the orange counters really worked in that kitchen, even after refacing. :)

I think this falls into the category of "something old that's new again". Just last night I saw an edition of Flip or Flop on HGTV, and they used orange in a house they staged. Looked great.

However, I have no orange throughout the rest of the house, so it's something I'd like -- admire even -- in someone else's house.

Oh yeah. It's definitely something we all like until we have to live with it. :)
