Grasses Greening up!

last modified: 9 years ago

I know it's a little early to talk about ornamental grasses, but I can't help it. I so look forward to their Greening up in spring. I know spring is underway when they do start greening up and just today I saw the laziest/last of them come to life, Panicum 'Heavy Metal' and Panicum 'Hot Rod'.

The first to green up are always the Pennisetums. Here's a photo of Pennisetum 'Desert Plains' that I bought late last summer in a 4" pot. The other three are planted out and looking about the same.

The other deciduous grasses that I have coming to life are Deschampsia cespitosa, Calamagrostis 'Overdam', Bouteloua 'Blond Ambition', Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Ginger Love' and Molinia caerulea variegata.

I am much looking forward to their graceful presence all summer and into fall and winter.
