I love this map. It is especially awesome to watch when a tropical cyclone/hurricane is rolling in.

We don't hoard the wind here! We just seem unable to make it go away and leave us alone. We are not wind hoarders. We are innocent victims. That's our story and we're sticking to it.

Today's wind was awful. I would have liked this wind if I was a kid who wanted to fly a kite, but otherwise, I wish it would just stop blowing and leave us alone. I think tomorrow will be a lot better. Our max gust today, as far as I know, was 33 mph but that's too much wind for the FFs who were/still are out battling grassfires and it is too much wind for a gardener who's trying to spread mulch and get it to stay where she is putting it.

If I could harness it and sell it, I would! I'm tired of holding off on some of my planting because of the wind!

I am battling the wind here now while trying to harden off my broccoli. The direction keeps changing daily so I have to keep moving them. Today it is out of the NE at 18 mph. They are going in the ground this weekend so the battle is almost over.

I'm not sure if it made national news but yesterday afternoon a fire broke out at an apartment complex that was under construction in the SW part of KC and embers from that fire blew to the SW and caught 17 homes with cedar shake roofs on fire. At one time most of that area of town mandated cedar shake roofs but now they are outlawed but not everyone has replaced them.

The wind is the hardest part about planting in March, especially transplants. I try to let mine get all the wind they can handle while hardening off, but even at that and even with them seeming like they've toughened up a bit, they still sometimes windburn after I plant them. There's only so much we can do to prepare them for the wind here. I'm not even sure it gets better in April---we still have wind plus severe thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes, microbursts and, sometimes, wind-induced dust storms that turn the air and raindrops reddish-brown. I love wind-free days, but they're fairly rare.

Based on this week's forecast, April-like weather appears to be arriving here near the end of the week. We don't get hail here very often at our house, but it can be very destructive and I hate seeing the possibility of hail in the forecast every single time it rains in spring.

My broccoli seems to be toughening up well in the wind. I topped off the 4" pots with more potting mix which helped them stay upright in the wind. I will bury them at bit deeper when I transplant so they can better withstand what mother nature will surely dish out in the coming weeks.

Wind is horrible here today. I had to do a hard pruning thanks to a rabbit hutch and tires flipping over on my plants arrrgh. Several lost the growth tip, blooms and tomatoes on the better boys. They said the wind was gusting up to 50 mph.
