Getting close...which layout do you like better??

Two designs, one kitchen. Which do you think will function better?

Design 1: keeps the same layout for appliances, but replaces a peninsula with an island.

Design #2: makes better use of length of kitchen; requires that we raise a large window, move plumbing and range.

Any concerns? Likes? DIslikes?

I like number 2 more. I would try to leave at least a couple more inches between island and frig if possible. I can not see the number of inches between island and stove but would leave at least 44

I can't read the measurements either, but I also like the second one. I'd center the range between the windows, and leave the same amount of reveal between the window on the right, and the uppers on that side. Red rectangles are optional uppers, with a hood 6" wider than the range (if no uppers).

I made the island a few inches shorter, and made both work aisles wider. The clean-up sink is wider. The pantry is narrower, to avoid a pinch point between it and the island. The island overhang is 15"--the minimum depth recommended by the NKBA. The aisle behind the seating can be 44" minimum, also recommended by NKBA.

Annie I'm happy you finally found a layout that works for you. Can I suggest you fine tune the details to maximiZe storage and efficiency. Drawers instead of slide out shelves across DW to store dishes. It's so convenient to open DW and store dishes without having to walk to other areas of kitchen. It's life changing, well at least for me it was!

The upper next to fridge I would do a straight cabinet that deads into the wall vs a curved corner upper. You might consider connecting it to the counter with bifold doors or doors that slide up and out of the way to hide small appliances.

I would probably shorten the island to get more aisle between the fridge and island and also inch the island down a few inches to get 44 between the range/sink wall and island as that is your main prep and cooking zone.

The bottom right corner that notes slide out shelves, is that a pantry? If so, I would probably do shallow shelves vs deep 24" cabinets with roll outs.

i would try to configure cooktop and prep sink so they aren't back to back to allow two people to use both areas simultaneously without getting in each other's way. Again, the wider aisle will help.
