Master Bathroom Layout

Good morning!

I am trying to finalize my master bathroom layout, and I think I'm pretty close. I'm just wanted to see if anyone has any little tweaks to make it the best possible layout in the space (without tearing it apart please)?

It will not have a linen cabinet, but we don't need to store much more than the towels that we use on a daily basis, as we have more room in the hall bath.

We are fine with the single sink, even though many would want to squeeze in two. The new heat supply will be in the toe kick.

Any thoughts on whether there is a better use of the closet space?

Am I missing anything?? Thanks in advance.

This is similar to our bathroom layout, except we have a tub and a linen closet where you have a shower and closet. I like the idea of putting shelves on the wall. We have a towel bar under the window.

We have a single sink, 72" vanity, and we love it! It gives you plenty of drawer space for all the little things you end up needing in the bathroom.

What will you use for window covering?

In the closet - have you laid out how you will have hanging rods and shelves? I assume you'll have some combination of the two. The best layout will depend on your specific needs, of course - for DH and me, it would be more double rods than single (few long clothes), and plenty of shelves for jeans, sweaters, etc. Do you have a dresser or chest of drawers in the bedroom?

Glad to know your single sink works well, Ann! I've gone back and forth, and it will both save some money, and give us more storage/counter space than a double sink.

I think we will either do shutters on the bottom half of the window (have to do a test to see how much you can see from the street, as it's quite close!!) or a top-down, bottom up shade.

I sent off our layout to The Container Store and they did a quick sketch using the Elfa system. I'm hoping it will hold all of our stuff, but I don't have much choice, as this is the space we have to work with. I am going to try to replicate this layout using the Ikea system.

The closet space will be way more than we have currently, so I'm hoping it will be sufficient. We currently have 2 large dressers and two nightstands with drawers in our bedroom, plus another reach-in closet. I hope with a bunch of organizing and purging, we can eliminate one of the dressers.

I'm afraid having storage on both walls of the closet will make the corner pretty crowded. Your layout doesn't show any place to hang a dress (maybe, like me, you don't have many). Oops, I just realized you have another closet.

You might be better off - and save money - by using just on Ikea box with shelves, and double rods between it and the wall. I would not put anything on the short wall until you actually hang up clothes and see how much space you have to access everything. Perhaps a narrower box for hanging long things would work in the lower right corner of the closet, but I would block it out with boxes before committing to anything.

Since you have another closet, you may want to reconfigure that one at the same time, to make best use of all your space. Perhaps convert that to a double rod, and hang long things in the new closet (depending on how much space you need for each).

Thanks, Ann! Laying it all out is definitely on my list of things to do. I was planning on out of season and suits/dresses in the other closet. It's about 48" and could easily hold all of that stuff for us, plus extra shoes/bags/misc items.

Good point on saving money by hanging the rods without the Pax frames. I like the frames for the drawers and shelves, but definitely could get away with fewer if we did the rods separately.

Is the only entrance to the bathroom through the closet?

What is going in place of the linen closet?

Ah, IKEA PAX closets, I know them well. They were great when I had no closet space but had room to include them. Since you have dedicated closet space I'd not bother with them. Go with your favorite closet system (I spent years putting together ELFA/Container Store closets).

Emily, yes, the only entrance is through the closet. We have another full bath ten steps down the hall and will end up with another full upstairs after our renovation. I am trying to avoid too many holes in the walls of our bedroom!

I am not totally sold on Pax, I was just using it for placement to see what I could fit. We may do Elfa or have our contractor install a custom solution.

Emily, forgot to respond about the linen closet...what do you mean "what's going in place of it?" Where are we storing linens? I'll keep some wash cloths and hand towels in the vanity, and keep our daily towels on hooks and towel bar in the bathroom.

Oh ok, nevermind. I thought a linen closet was drawn on your plan, but now I see it is a coat closet opening from the other direction.
