For me it's the color... If you neutralized the main color, painted trim white and painted the door red, things would really look up :)

I think the main issue is that the color is making the house visually blend into the sky and trees. I think a cranberry red could look really nice.

I agree with the other posters about the color. Even if you just painted the trim white it would help. If it were me, I would paint the home a light beige and the trim white. But then, my tastes do not do not reflect the current trends.

I would plant seasonal flowers in the front planter, but not right next to the home.

I cannot tell if there is a porch, if so, I would put some chairs and a small table along with some potted plants out there.

I too am a fan of colonial style and symmetrical window placement that allows room for shutters. Since the small door on the right looks plain and modern, you might replace it with a wood-frame door that matches the double front doors. Because your home is in a wooded setting, you might find that a light yellow exterior will make the house stand out from all the greenery. I would suggest a roof in light grey with matching shutters and entry doors in a shade of red that harmonizes with light yellow. If you think the red is too clashy, you might opt for doors in a grey shade that is a bit darker than the grey I suggested for the roof and shutter color.
