Tequila is a purple bell pepper. Tequila Sunrise is an orange carrot shaped sweet pepper that grows upright on the plant. I suspect that folks who got the wrong variety did not pay careful attention to reading. Getting seeds from a reliable vendor ( Burpee is reliable but pricey) should 99% of the time give you the described variety. Lots of varieties out there with similar names and most disappointments occur from confusing those names. Largo and Key Largo are another couple that generate lots of woeful stories. Unless you are very familiar with both cultivars, it is almost impossible to identify them at the seedling stage.

I hope it's just a reading error on some people's part. The only reason it worried me is because on this thread alone

Interesting that Burpee does not list either Tequila or Tequila Sunrise. Maybe they found out that they had a batch of mislabeled seeds and discontinued them before 2017. Possible that you have old seeds or bought from a secondary vendor? It is a heatless pepper Zero Scu.

Hm well i bought them from a home depot a couple days prior to planting them. On the back of the package it says "Packed for 2017" so i'm not sure if they're old or not

Wow. I bought my Tequila Sunrise seeds at Home Depot also (Burpee seeds packed for 2017). Sure hope they turn out to be right - my sisters just loved the plants last year. Orange pointy little peppers - not bell shaped. They are nice looking when full of peppers and did very well in a container.

My TS seedling looks like yours. I guess we both will be wondering what we have until they produce...

OK, so both jacobholmes30 & calamondindave bought Burpee seed packets marked Tequila Sunrise & Packed for 2017 yet as farmerdill posted & I verified Burpee does not sell them on their website. I also verified Home Depot does not list them on their website so I may just stop by my HD about a mile away to see if they have them. I do not doubt others bought them there just want to see if my HD have them (Thinking Inspector Clouseau FACT! scene.). The only thing I can think of is this is a "store brand" meaning Burpee packs them for their massive shipment to the 1000's of stores across the North America.

Other than that, dunno?

Good morning all, I bought this exact pack of seeds. The plants did very well. Put off many orange pointed peppers. However, the peppers I am a harvesting are not sweet. They are pretty hot, hotter than any jalapeño I have had. I was curious if anyone here might know why?
