The only organic soil I remember at walmart was a version of Miracle Grow, which some people use without problems and some people have complained about. If you don't want to chance it, I have gotten organic soil at Lowes, for decent prices, it was from Arkansas, I think, I don't remember the name. Both Lowes and Home Depot have the same Miracle Grow brand, but I think Lowes only had the brand from Ark.

I think it probably would be okay, but that is just a guess since we have no idea what brand it is. The Wal-Mart near us had several different brands of organic soil-less mix earlier in the Spring, but most of them were in small bags. I think I've only ever seen the organic version of Miracle Grow at Wal-Mart. Your store may have something different. I bought the organic version of Miracle Grow (thankfully, only one bag) the first or second year it hit the market. I knew something was wrong as soon as I opened the bag. It had a terrible, terrible smell----like wet chicken manure/bedding multipled 10,000%. Foolishly I assumed the smell was just so bad because it had been closed up inside that bag and I used it to pot up seedlings from the starter flat to individual cups. I quickly wished I had not. The seedlings died in less than a week. That's been quite a few years back, but I haven't trusted the organic version of MG since then and never will. Before you buy and use a lot of it, you might want to buy one test bag and open it and see how it looks and smells. That way, you could make a better decision about whether or not it looks like what you want to use.

Don't buy penningtons. Not sure if it is organic or not. It is however full of sticks and rocks. Very sad with this potting soil. Next time I will buy one bag and take it out to the car and open it before I drive 60 miles home with it. Actually next time I will bite the bullet and get the one I like and I dont know the name, just the bag.
