Judy it looks beautiful and very tropical to me !! I have an old clematis book that has that type of clematis shown growing over a open garden work shed area . Are you sure about it on a fence ? It just looks like it may be bigger and more substantial than sweet autumn and the like . If you do get it in curious about how much it blooms ! Do let us know what you decide .

That's what I was afraid of! I was hoping it'd help cover up some of the deer fence without pulling it down. It's about 8 ft tall and totally wide enuf. It does look tropical and so stinkin pretty.

Evergreen clematis needs plenty of room and a warm sheltered situation. Not for climates where it gets below 15 degrees F. very often.

I should be ok with the temps but sheltered prob not so much. I really don't care if it stays evergreen I just love those little flowers. I'm going to try it and see how it does.

It will stay evergreen even if exposed to some cold temps.......it can just get some leaf burn (cold damage) if that happens.

These are very widely planted in my location. In fact, my current inherited/shared garden has a very mature one that has grown to the top of a large chestnut tree. They do get big in time! If you can train it to spread and drape along the top of the fence, it should make a very effective curtain and disguise that portion of the fence well. My sister living nearby is doing that exact thing with a young one (3 y.o.) in her garden.

The bloom period here is typically late March to early April - this year it will be closer to midApril. When established, this clematis can bloom very heavily but for a relatively short period of time.......about a month at most. Nicely scented but you need to be close to detect.

Apple Blossom is just a pale pink variant of the typical white C. armandii, Snowdrift. Armandii is also one of the more shade tolerant of the clems, growing well in only morning sun or all day filtered sun.

Ijust wanted to mention I noticed my local nursery has this on their online inventory in a five gallon for get this .. 54.99! Is that normal ? I mean sheesh . I think I'll take a cutting for ten and let it grow for a couple years .. Lol

Yeah really lilyfinch. It's 80$ here for a five gallon. Lol. I found it online for $30 but may just wait til next year. I already have others I need to get in the ground along with oodles of roses.

80$! It better come with its own forged wrought iron trellis accented with 14k gold for that price . Goodness!!
