Ecuagenera orchids
Bought some Ecuagenera orchids (Masdevallia bennettii, stanhopea wardii, maxillaria camardii) from an american vendor. They arrived on time and are healthy looking .All are bare rooted, wrapped in sphagnum but have a combination of rotted roots and healthy roots.
I potted them up in stalite (small grey stones) charcoal and small amounts of sphag for moisture. Sprinkled them with some Dynamite and drenched with KLN.
Did I overdo things? Do I have long to wait for them to establish themselves. The Mas and the max looked like teenager orchids, but the stanhopea has two fat pointed fingers that looked like overgrown arrows pointing down from the base of the plant.
Another topic, re light. I learnt that light plays a very important part in the blooming process, but on my patio now in the a.m. the sun burns some of my orchids, so I put up the umbrella at about 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. when the sun moves over to someone else's patio. So that means they get only about four hours sun. Is that enough? After 11:30 they get light, but not sunlight. Any more sun after 12pm, and some of them get burn spots.
Is four hours enough for catts, vandas, encyclias, dends and oncs.? I am in South Miami, FL.
Thanks a lot, folks
