To test it, just put some of it in a few paper cups and plant beans or peas. Give them a couple of weeks to sprout and grow. Maybe a total of three weeks max. If they grow fine and don't show herbicide damage, then it is herbicide-free and you can use it. Or, use it where you grow grain crops (like corn). The kinds of herbicides that persist in compost and manure kill broadleaf weeds, not grass-like grains.

I'm in rural NE Norman and yes, I've gotten it but it's been a while back. Maybe 7 years ago was the last time. We tried it 2 years in a row. Found it to be rocky and still had chunks of trash from maybe plastic bottles and such, I would highly recommend the place at the stockyards and I think the name is murphy's. Best stuff I've EVER found. Warning - take a clothespin for your nose. Remember it's the Stockyards! haha!

Oh, great reminder about the Stockyards. I have a friend that works there and he told me about that stuff a couple years ago. I totally forgot about it!

Good thing about Norman though, is that it is free.

We used Norman compost. It was chunky still, but free! If you decide to get it, you might just use it as a mulch (if it's chunky). After you do the test that Dawn speaks of.
