Easter basket ideas

last modified: 9 years ago

I want to get a big easter basket for my DD away at boarding school. There are only a few sweets she likes ( a tie between gourmet goat-milk salted caramels and , funnily enough, ordinary jelly beans).

Any ideas of other stuff to include? As long as it is spring like, it can be anything, even a T shirt or cosmetics or...?

I will hand deliver it and the basket can be just about any size.

PS Thought i'd plug this wonderful caramel company:

I usually do a "Spring" theme for my teen GD such as a cute pair of athletic shorts, light weight long PJ's, cheap flip-flops (I hate them but she loves cheap Old Navy; she says you can't have too many white and black ones), probably a new tee shirt to go with the PJ's and shorts, etc. A new beach towel is always a hit in a teen basket. New sun glasses (a gal can't have too many)..good chapsticks..cute VS Pink undies...teen girls are so easy...they love their stuff.

Thought I was finished...thought of other things. Phone chargers and head phones...she can never keep up with them...new cute phone case.

    And always...Dove chocolates.

My new favorite thing is nail polish by Polish Me Silly. They have an Etsy shop. I wore one of the confetti-filled polishes out shopping and total strangers were asking me where I got it. I also like the bronze holographic polish because it looks like normal polish in artificial light, but when you are in sunlight, it has an amazing rainbow overtone. They have some sampler packs that would be cute in an Easter basket.

I've done Easter baskets for my daughter when she was in boarding school. Peeps were a must, as were Cadbury chocolate eggs. I've also added Lilly Pulitzer animal crackers, a cute water bottle( fill it with jelly beans), flip flops and a cute shirt or two.

My 21-year-old daughter was given one of these in a gift basket recently, and I couldn't believe how much she loved it. She put it on her keychain and said it makes it so easy to find them in her purse now. https://www.etsy.com/listing/287820069/faux-fur-pom-pom-keychains-furry-key?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=pom%20pom&ref=sr_gallery_7

Best, Yes, she has one of those on her backpack. I think they are just decorative; her dorm access room access, charges, etc are all on her id card. I don't think she owns a key!

    Jojo, LP animal crackers? aww!

Fun2, My other DD would love some of those; this one only likes very pale pinks and nude tones for nails and makeup. But how cute!

Perhaps you're already planning this, too, but, if not, may I suggest that you also deliver a second "dorm basket" that she can share with roommates and other girls in her dorm. You could put into that one some packets of microwave popcorn, some bags of chocolate kisses, the obligatory Peeps, hot chocolate packets, a few current teen magazines, and (if as popular at hers at as other schools, a board game or two, yes they actually do play them after check-in hours).

Shutterfly has cute custom notepads -- I got one for my 16 yo DD that has her name and a bunch of photos in the margins. (Pictures of her with friends, etc.) It arrived pretty quickly after I ordered it.

Other than that, and some candy, I made hers a theme basket this year with beauty products -- she doesn't wear makeup but I included tweezers, a hair mask (masque?), Burts Bees facial wipes and body wash, hair elastics, nail polish, etc. I got it done early because I won't be home for Easter...visiting my son who's studying abroad. :-)

In past years I've done flip flops and beach coverup, sunscreen, etc.

Oh, and fun socks are good, too.

Gift cards...small ones for places like Starbucks, bagel place, ice cream shop.

Tide-to-go pen, lip balm, underwear, socks, dried fruit, quarters for laundry (unless your DD's school has the newer machines where you pay with your ID/charge card). I was maybe a little too practical with my kids' baskets, but they used and appreciated everything!

We don't celebrate easter, but we do celebrate spring with a basket of goodies, and this year my freshman in college is getting dark chocolate and caramels, a bag of pistachios (tradition), a small bag of jelly belly jellybeans (another tradition), a pair of bright, springy leggings, a "resist" t-shirt, several "resist" stickers for her laptop (they are all about the laptop stickers at her college), a book on her idol, Ruth Bader Ginsberg (who graduated from the same college my DD attends and is a member of the sorority my DD just joined), a pair of earbuds and a new charger (yeah, her too). Thanks to this thread I'm going to add some fun socks, Tide to go pen and a Dunkin Donuts gift card, great ideas here, thanks, all.

I don't ever remember receiving gifts for Easter as a child or teen. Just a basket of candy, hidden behind the sofa or a chair and that ended when I became a teenager or maybe sooner. As adults, we always bought Mom an Easter Lily, sometimes my brother did, sometimes it was me.

I have to confess that, when my offspring went to college, my Easter baskets were so huge that they called them CARE packages. I used to fill a wicker clothes basket haha. I still give them to my grands. I love buying for them.

Fun2BHere, thanks for the tip about Polish Me Silly. I just ordered some holographic polish. I only paint my toes, but like to have fun with it.

You're welcome, Linelle. I hope you love it. I've been tempted to try the color-changing formula on my toes, but since I always wear closed toe shoes, it seems like a waste.

Socks, t-shirts, bathing suit, rash guard, flip flops/crocs, beach towel, scarf, sunglasses, sunblock, swim googles, lip gloss, goldfish (the crackers) in a cone shaped pastry bag tied with green ribbon (looks like a carrot), beach ball, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, deck of cards, book

    Perfect!! She will love it.
