Well done! Are you still pleased with the Kholer Veer?

I'm in NH/Maine too and have a similar '50's pink bathroom. we are about to choose a pedestal over a Euro vanity. Any tips?

I love having a pedestal sink. This bathroom is pretty small so having a sink with a smaller base makes the space seem larger and less cramped than a square or rectangular vanity with cabinets would, however it does compromise on storage space. One of the reasons I chose the Kohler Veer sink was because of the extra sink-top space the "wings" on the side provide. The sink is really nice - it is easy to clean and still looks brand new - and I love the contemporary styling. I'm very happy with the quality of the Kohler products we had installed.

Storage is the biggest issue in this bathroom. We built a small inset shelf into the shower surround, but it isn't tall enough to hold most shampoo bottles so some of those still rest on the edges of the tub. This bathroom doesn't have a medicine cabinet, shelves, or a closet, so the only place to store things is on the sides of the sink or the tank behind the toilet, or on the floor. This forces us to keep the bathroom fairly clean and uncluttered, but also means that some of the usual essential items live in our hall closet right next to the bathroom instead of in the bathroom itself.

Generally, we have a few essential items on the sink top (hand soap, our toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss) and some extra items on the back of the toilet tank (usually my hairbrush, my boyfriend's shaving supplies, and a small personal kit that includes tweezers and nail clippers, because those get used quite regularly). For everything else, we have little boxes of items that we keep in the hall closet that are separated by category (my hair products, his grooming supplies, first aid supplies, etc) so we can just grab the whole box and bring it into the bathroom if we need them. It keeps all of the like items together and makes it easy for us to move stuff back and forth. The boxes we use are just inexpensive small plastic tubs we got at Target, but you could use something a little nicer looking or stack little boxes with tops if you wanted and keep a few items stored in the bathroom. I keep my feminine hygiene products in a cute makeup tote that way I can just leave the entire bag in the bathroom for the week that I need it without it being an eyesore.

I consciously chose aesthetic over storage when designing this bathroom and don't have any regrets in doing so. In an ideal world, I would have both, but for me the large light reflecting mirror and the ability to see under and behind appliances makes this space feel so clean and spa-like in a way I would never have been able to accomplish if I had been focused on maximizing storage. The previous design included a small medicine cabinet, small vanity, and toothbrush holder installed in the wall and was hideous by comparison. This bathroom feels a million times more inviting, and I don't feel it functions any worse.

The Kohler sink and toilet are easy to clean and still look great. I would buy these products again and definitely recommend them. My contractor ended up getting us a Sterling tub made of their Vikrell material (a fiberglass/acrylic hybrid material), but I really dislike it. The style is fine but in less than two years has already already stained, chipped, and scratched and is very difficult to clean, at least using any of the products that Sterling recommends and are considered "safe" to use on that material. I cannot seem to get the tub to look "fresh" no matter how much elbow grease and product I use. I easily spend 2-4x as much time scrubbing the tub as I do cleaning the entire rest of the bathroom and it never looks as good. I would not get Vikrell product again. The Kohler sink by comparison, wipes down easily.

Hopefully this helps! Good luck on your remodel. I'd love to see before and after photos, so feel free to share them here.

Fantastic feedback! We have an old old recessed medicine cabinet and an integrated linen cupboard so we are choosing a pedestal since we're not hurting for storage. We just need a place to put a toothbrush and a razor down!! I'll post a pic for you soon or a pic in general!
