Decorating for Easter or Spring?

last modified: 9 years ago

Do you put out seasonal décor for spring, Easter, Passover - or any other spring celebration? Would you care to share photos?

I have set out a tiny "crate" holding four colored eggs on the TV console; on each side it of are 5" tall carved Easter bunnies wearing their spring finery. They are tiny, but they don't obscure the TV screen and add a bit of fun.

I have a crystal basket on the lamp table. It holds one huge "gold" egg. Easter weekend I'll fill the deviled egg platter with strands of basket grass, candies, and colored eggs. I set a candle holder and a 3" pillar candle in the center. I think it's pretty and adds to the breakfast table.

Fair warning! I'm grumpy and sad today over a petty - and in the grand scheme of God's universe - totally unimportant issue.

I've been singing the blues all morning, lamenting the fact I was not allowed to put in a less-wide window when we replaced the 50+ year old single paned monster window last year. If this new one could have been even 10" less wide I would be able to fit the small desk/hutch between the front door and the right side of the huge window.

The desk would have been so perfect there; I had made all the tiny (15x11) living room's decisions based on the desk being in that spot. It's top shelf and left cubby were to be the main seasonal display space in the room.

If the blasted 108"-wide off-center window was least down 98" (88" would be better) the room would work! Does a 15-ft. long living space, with no "view," a walkway, and two doorways, need a 9-ft. wide window?

Is there white wine still on the tea table? I see the champagne is gone and the beer needs replenishing.

Jumbo eggs don't fit so well in this late-1940s tray; I'm using "small" eggs this year.

Hahahaha on the wine> I will join you white or red. Who needs a reason. My hands are aching I think that is reason enough.

Cute seasonal decor. We need to get your little desk hutch into your space. I know we have tried to do this more than once. Maybe this time we can come up with the right placement for it. I still think it could go there even with the heater vent.

No seasonal stuff for me. Just makes more work to get it out put it away. I am such a fuddy duddy. I did the nativity for Christmas and actually lost interest in it way before it was time to take it down. I was out enjoying the yard. Had to come in for another deviled egg bowl. Hungry. I forgot about breakfast this morning. DOH on me.

Clearing up the dog yard and catio area so I can finish building my cat walk and temporary close it in so I can move the kennel away from my bedroom windows.Eventually the big kennel will connect to the cat walk. So tired of looking through it and also the snow removal was too much for me this year. I have come up with a simpler plan that will give house kitties a larger play area for summer and winter too if they choose to play on the snow. But a very small enclosed space they can go into in the winter that only has a roof of about 24" by 36". It will be 6 foot tall with three shelves they can crawl through to go up and down as they choose. I couple swipes with the broom and snow off the roof. And the best part is it will be affordable for me to build. A photo from pinterest. Mine will not be as large as this one.

    Back to work for me.

Well slim pickens for me for Easter pictures. My mom made me an Easter basket every year of my life until she passed away at age 91!! No matter where I lived, that basket would come by way of UPS and the delivery guy would always know what it was because the sugar from the peeps would escape the brown paper wrapping and duct tape!! Ha, ha! My co-workers always loved it too because I shared! :) So I don't have official Easter decor, but I do really love peeps. In fact, for my 50th birthday, my friends sent me 50 peeps!! And I ate them all.

I love all the colors and I like to let them harden before eating them. There are some now with flavors like watermelon but the flavored ones are not good. Just give me the basic peeps in many colors and I am in heaven!!

My friend was here last year at Easter and she brought me an Easter basket of sorts.

And another year, Carmelita wore a nice Easter bonnet.

I like Easter and I should really put a little more effort into decorating for it. Caroline, I love how colorful yours is and I shall use it as inspiration!

Eld6161 - I love your doorbell chimes, and that's such a nice way to display smaller seasonal items.

I have always dyed eggs, too. I'll call my youngest brother a couple days before Easter and ask "Whatcha doin', baby bro?" "Coloring eggs." He's 47; I'm 61. We love our Easter prep.

Murray's Mom - that is such a lovely story about your Mom sending you Easter baskets. I just know she had great joy in doing them. Were the pretty pink dishes included as the "basket?" Either way, that's a great gift. Carmelita should always wear hats; she quite fetching.

Long ago when the Kitchen Table forum was still owned and run by Spike, we had great fun coming up with "Official this" and "Official that." The "Official Candy" of the KT was peeps!

Shades - you're working too hard. The enclosure and new run is going to be great. Think "photos!"

Caroline, Right now I am still in the dismantle stage. There is an order to the process I can not move ahead until the old kennel is down and moved. Hopefully tomorrow I can get it down and maybe going back together. I am out of daylight and energy to go further on it tonight. I will now move into mosaic mode and work on the side of the bathroom cabinet. It is actually laid out on my dinning room table My actual work table is not large enough for this project.

I think there is still a Kitchen Table forum here on Houzz.

That's my life Shades. I can't do "A" until "B" is finished, which has to wait for "C" to be done... Drives me bonkers and nothing is finished.

Do you ever sleep, Shades? Inquiring minds want to know! LOL

Here are my decorating efforts from this evening. This is all I'll be doing this year, except for the colored eggs for Easter Day.

The crystal bowl is about 10" wide and 12" tall. It's filled with small plastic eggs, grass, and the big golden egg. I may try using clear/iridescent grass when I get to town. The eggs are empty so Sam won't be too interested.

At Christmas I fill this bowl with small glass balls and sprigs of evergreens.

Top view, tiny ducks (3) and chicks (5); some are hiding behind the handle.

And...click or double click to unsquash the photo! Grrrrr

I follow a chicken forum, and I'm constantly reading books about flock management. One recent article stressed the importance of keeping ducks and chickens separate. I found it surprising that fact needed to be published. But in the spirit of this week's reading, my ducklings are on the opposite side from the chicks!

Eggs in a crate and courting bunnies on the corner of the TV console.

Last but not least is a life-size Irish Dresden egg tied with a porcelain bow and set in a little ceramic basket. Both items were thrift store finds. This tiny egg is one of my favorite Easter items.

... and click the photo to unsquish. I have no idea why my iPod camera does this more times than not.

While hunting in the basement for these items, I consolidated three "Easter storage" boxes and few free ranging items into one mid-size Sterilite container with plenty of room to spare. It is now labeled on each side and the top, and there is an inventory sheet on the box and in the computer.

I "decluttered" eight larger items. They are now in the car, ready to go to the Thrift Shop.

I feel good about my evening's work.

Caroline, your pictures are just fine! They are not squishy. I don't know why you would be seeing them that way, but know that they are wonderful! I love all your Easterness! I have a glass bridal basket too and what a great idea to make it an Easter basket. I will steal that idea from you if you don't mind. I think I have some grass too so now all I need is the candy to put in it.

That pink bowl in my picture was a find at an auction I frequent. I just thought it was really pretty. Come to think of it, that would make a good basket again and it's bigger than my bridal basket. Thanks for the inspiration!!

"Steal" away, Murray'sMom. The more Easter beauty in the world, the better!

I had not heard of these baskets being called "Bridal Baskets." Is there a story behind the name?

Mom gave me mine many years ago. Normally it lives on top of the hutch in my sewing room. It comes out for Christmas, and now Easter.

So here is what mine looks like. The only information I found was that in the 1800's and early 1900's, it was custom to give a newly wed couple a "bridal" or "wedding" basket that they would then used to display fruits in the couple's home.

The Victorian ones were usually silver with a glass insert. Later they were made from glass including Fenton. Some are very colorful.
