African Violets

MG African Violet mix!

Hello!

I don't really grow AF but I bought MG's AV mix because I got some Gloxinia bulbs that I wanted to plant. I have to tell you that the mix is the worst I've ever seen. It's heavy and like mud when moistened. It hold's so much moisture and the extra water takes forever to drain out of the pot. Does anyone else feel this way or am I wrong?

Most growers using Miracle Grow add a lot of perlite, perhaps a cup of it to each cup of the MG. Perlite does wonders to a heavy mix!

I don't get the MG African violet mix,,,,,I buy the regular MG indoor plant mix. I don't know if there is a difference in the two,,,,,but Terrilou is right. Violets get equal amounts of perlite and MG. It works very well, and honestly I have good success with it. I also amend it the other way for my succulents. It is the only one I buy. They also have a MG Garden mix for outdoor plants. I don't buy that. Hope this helps you. Rosie
