I just checked my pictures and my old Red Lion had those white tips also so that is what it might be. There are so many beautiful reds out there now that it could be anything though. It should do great in your sister's garden!!

Unfortunately, in my experience, mislabeled bulbs are more common than getting the right bulbs at big box stores. Part of the fun is seeing what you actually got!
