The person who had a Spotty at the time hasn't posted for a long time. I don't know anyone else who possesses one and if they do, they're keeping quiet!

Good luck in your quest, she certainly is soft and beautiful and yes, we all wonder why so many gorgeous hybrids have gone by the way side and are no longer in production. But we never know, Royal Colors over the past several years has come up with some wonderful surprises that we never thought we would see again.!! There is always hope....

Perhaps you might write them with a picture and tweak their interest for a future offering.☺☺

Like you, I've been searching for 'Spotty' for many years.

In 2008, I posted here writing that the question of 'Spotty' had not
been answered definitively or satisfactorily. To date, this still appears to be true.

Below is a recap of my research. Numbers 1, 2, and 4 are not mutually exclusive.

1. ‘Spotty’ is a hybrid
   of H. pardinum
2. ‘Spotty’ is a hybrid
   of H. neoleopoldii x H. pardinum created by Dr. Martin Cardenas.
3. Spotty is the
   copyrighted name for H. stylosum.
4. I also found a
   reference mentioning 'Sumac Pinini' (better known as 'Spotty'). This may have been the name that Dr. Cardenas gave to his hybrid.

I forgot to include the Hippeastrum species currently at the top of my "Wish List."

They are native to Bolivia.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will write to RC and express my interest and that it seems to be desired by several. I have bought seeds from Australia and they never were delivered ( I assume Customs). I was not aware of how difficult it is to get plant material in and out of Australia, but reading the past threads about Maguire's bulbs gives me some idea.

Thank you for the information on Spotty. I will write to RC and hopefully that might be something RC will think worthwhile to pursue. Blanca, what do you think of the Maguire Naomi? My dream would be to use Naomi pollen on Spotty, but I know nothing about what is in Naomi's background. I just love those spots. Can you also imagine Spotty and Exotic Star together? I can only dream. :)

thank you for starting this thread, it's very interesting! Of course I have some Hippis too I'm dreaming of, including Santos, Pink Floyd, Ruby Star and Madame Butterfly (to name just a few) but the number 1 on my wishlist would be H.pardinum which is quite similar to your Spotty I think. Well time will tell if I will ever get one... Plants taught me patience:-)

And it is certainly a good idea to write to Royal Colors...

I wrote to RC and included all the information I could find on Spotty. I will hope that perhaps it will plant the seed of interest to bring Spotty back if only for a season.

the H. pardinum look is what made me so excited to track down a Spotty. I know that H. pardinum will most likely never be in my price range or even available, but perhaps Spotty can be. Oh, and this might interest you.

I liked Santos and I adore Madame Butterfly. I couldn't resist. Maybe you might like them also.

Hi Joey, that sounds very good, thank you! But I won't!!! I don't allow myself to buy seeds although sometimes it is very hard to resist :-) But there is this room problem and I need some rules for myself :-) I have some seedlings of a Madame self growing and a Santos cross, both from seeds a very nice person on this forum sent me last year :-) I would buy a bulb though...

Please post pictures when your seedlings flower one day... Hope you get some with variegated leaves!

I am growing some of these very same seeds from this seller and I have 3 with prominent green stripes and the others may show a stripe later! Good luck Joey with your seeds!
