Those are gorgeous! I planted some hyacinths last fall but they are mostly just now breaking through - the few that didn't get eaten by squirrels, that is. I wonder why mine are so far behind yours, given that we're nearly neighbors?

These are by foundation in full sun. They broke through and had buds early with the warm days of February and I thought they would fizzle out when the weathet turned bitter cold. Ones in less sun are in bud, but not fully developed yet. Even if they are later, I know you will enjoy your blooms!

Those are impressive for five-year-old hyacinths. The last pic shows nice shape as if they are new bulbs. I get a few close to that, but most of my returners are more sparsely flowered. Still worth it, and you're right they smell so good.

Nothing other than cutting the spent bloom. Honestly, they are not normally this full and I was quite surprised as these have been in ground a while.

Here are some of mine - a couple well-chewed. I have been spraying them with pepper spray but it keeps raining. I spotted a bunny in the area this morning, and the squirrels are always around (they have already dug up most of my tulips, and presumably all of my crocuses, since I haven't seen a single bloom!). These are far behind others in my neighborhood, too, but they're not quite in full sun.

They look great with nice full flower heads. If they were just planted last year, it is typical to be a week or two behind.

Have you tried Deer Off? It has a peppermint smell and is supposed to be absorbed by the leaves so you only need to keep spraying new leaves. Bobbex spray also works for my bunnies. Until I used these, I never saw a bloom on my tulips (darn bunnies!).

I haven't tried Deer-Off or Bobbex - it didn't occur to me to try those because I don't think deer are a problem where we are. I'll pick some up!

I like the blooms to last as late as possible. Your hyacinths will be in full glory later which extends the beauty of spring. In addition to when they were planted, as Posie says above, I find bloom time is specific to their site in garden. Ones by foundation or cement walks which retain heat bloom earlier in my beds.

biondanonima, I put a mix of blood meal and bone meal around my tulips last year, and rabbits stopped eating them.
