That's great!

I fooled around with baggies a few years ago after moving from NY to Florida. I sold most of my collection during the move and felt very lonely at my new house.

I discovered the baggies in Lowes and bought a few. All grew but took a couple of years to finally flower. I wasn't impressed and eventually brought them to the auction table of my Orchid Society. I did keep a Nodosa which flowers faithfully each year.

Seems like you had a larger selection than I found.

Home Depot and lowes both have the bags. I would see them in NY so I know they sell them all over. Lowes seems to take better care of them.

You probably never noticed them. They are in the garden section usually in a big box. Ask someone at the store.

Are they with the Phals? The garden section is the only reason I go to HD or Lowes!

Some stores keep the bag orchids near the potting material and wooden baskets and stuff. They work but it takes more time then if it was actively growing. They seem to get dormant in the bag. And it takes a while to wake them up. I still have a remnant of Den. Aggra. that was a bag orchid...

I have grown a bunch of baggie orchids over the years bought at HD/Lowes, they come from SunbBulb in Arcadia FL. I used to monitor who provided Sunbulb with Flasks (Ruben In Orchids, H&R nurseries) recognized the labeled crosses from catalogs and then saw same plants in baggies. They also imported many species from Thai growers... Occasionally you see some great little plants. I grew an oncidium ampliatum to monster size from one of the baggies, as well as many other thai species. If you are interested in their species orchids, find out from garden manager when they get the delivery from sun bulb and be there when they open the boxes to get first pick. They also occasionally sell their overgrown plants (mostly Catts) at HD locations and that is usually a great deal... speak to garden manager for more info, if that person happens to be an orchid grower, you may be n luck...

The garden folks at my local HDs turn over frequently. I don't think I've spoken to the same person twice and I'm often in multiple times a week.

Wooden baskets! You Florida folks are spoiled! I have never seen a wooden basket for sale anywhere near me. Online only. Even at the annual OS show and sale, they don't sell wooden baskets :(

Suzabanana, in my area, only Lowes has the bagged orchids.

This display was in the middle of the freshly rearranged indoor plant section. If I walked past the section and not through it, I wouldn't have seen them at all, because they were behind the large blooming phals in ceramic pots. I didn't take photos in the store and now I wish I had, to show you what the display looked like.

I have never seen wooden baskets for sale locally, either empty or planted.

I bought my Little Stars in a 2" pot, and it took years to fill the 4" pot it's in now. Here in the Northeast US, we can't put them on a tree and watch them get huge. We have to be patient.

I'll have to try Lowes. Definitely not at my local DHs. I scoured both yesterday since I was already there buying seeds and bird of paradise plants. Per usual, the only orchids to be found were sad, dry, limp Phals.

Yes, they are hidden! Stores have them piled in a large box. Terrible conditions. You should only consider buying if you know they came in fresh. They keep them in dark areas so they get little light. Tricky to find them...

I went back and got a picture of the display. This was three full trays a week ago. See the doubled-up trays on the right? This is why I keep checking the same store. It's also why I binge-bought when I caught the fresh shipment. They may get another shipment towards summer, or this may be it for the year, who knows? Not the staff.

The 4" size is bagged, and the 2" size has netting. The photos represent the general type. The same photo is used for all white Latouria dens, for example. Each pot has an individual label.

Literally bought two of these today, it was the first time i'd ever seen anything other than a phal at any big box store around here. I picked up Den. aggregatum and Cattleya waianae "sunburst"

My Lowe's Is a great place to find orchids. I bought a blooming Vanda for $15 yesterday, regular price was $29.98 but some of the blooms had died.

All good choices. My Lowes has vandas in a bag for $7 and $13. Recently they started getting lg blooming ones for $30. They are well worth that but when the flowers start to wilt they sell them half price so don't give up hope.
