How wide is each of the pieces that are sewn together?
My first thought is it's a Chimayo weaving....but perhaps it is Mexican. Appears hand done on a narrow loom. An Indian rug would be on a wide loom and not pieced, so it's "semi- commercial"...whatever that means ! LOL! Need to see a close up of the weaving and of all 4 edges. is there any evidence of a tag having been sewn on it anywhere?

Thanks lindac92 - there is no evidence of it having a tag. Each section is 31 inches.

hmmm...it appears that the warp is wool...the fringe.
I am not sure I know enough about hand woven rugs to nail it down. What I do know is Indian ( mostly Navajo) weavings were woven on a loom to fit the weaving, never pieced.
I ask these questions because with more info, someone may zero in on the source.

Mexican ... the eagle on the cactus with the snake is the national symbol.

They would weave single width or (more difficult) double width blankets and match the pattern up the middle.

They are VERY warm

Chimayo weavers have done a fair share of rugs with the eagle on a cactus. But to the best of my knowledge, they used full width looms.

Obviously that seller doesn't know what it is either...LOL!

Chimayo is a pueblo/village in New Mexico just north of Santa Fe, and to the best of my knowledge does not use narrow looms.

I agree, Linda. In fact I wrote that same thought in my post, but erased it since I have very little knowledge on the subject. It does not seem to be from the 1920's, IMO.
