Not an expert, but yes I believe you have missed the window. I planted my peas on February 18 here which is earlier than I ever have before but if I don't get them in ASAP then about the time they start producing the heat kicks in and shuts them down.

If you already bought seeds, you can save them for the fall!

Where are you located? I don't think you missed your window. I'm in southern NY and mine are just breaking the surface now. They are supposed to go in the ground as soon as the soil can be worked. Couldn't plant them much earlier because there was snow on the ground and then will all of this rain lately, they probably would've just rotted. I started them under a mini greenhouse, so that's the only way I was able to get them in sooner.

No you are not too late! I'm not an expert but I'm still planting away.

how long after a soaking (1"+) rain can you plant? Must you wait a few days? A week?

I don't see any reason to wait at all. Unless the soil is waterlogged or too cold for them to germinate. Damp soil is perfect for sowing peas.

If you tell us where you are located we can give you better advice. It is already too late to sow peas in much of zone 6 but zone 6 is all over the map.

Unless you've got really poor draining soil or your garden is in a low lying area then an inch of rain shouldn't be a problem. Like I said in my previous comment, I had several days of rain. The area where my garden is located had standing water all around and there's no way I could plant in those conditions.

Plant them now. As soon as the soil can be worked.
