He's Hot Sauce, the official Smaller Homes Crawfish!

Do you think his new digs qualify as a "smaller home" since they are so spacious, and so well appointed, and he's so small?! LOL

Are the plants real? Does he have several hidey holes? Like at least three?

Murray's Mom - it was so sweet of you to donate the lovely aquarium. I just know he's he's so happy now!!!

I never knew crayfish could be pets, let alone you can buy them in pet stores. The article on caring for them is very interesting.

murraysmom - what a nice thing to do.

    Lemon Squeeze! ha

I was impressed with now much the boy knows about Hot Sauce. He waited to put him in the aquarium until he had read Caroline's links and got some more information as to whether HS could be in deep water. He found out that as long as there is a filter, the deep water was fine. The boy is also thinking about maybe getting a fish as well. They do need to get a few more hiding places and they know that HS is nocturnal so he needs his dark time. The plants are not real. I had all this when I had fish before. They were interested to know that HS might like some greens and they will provide him with sum. This whole family is as organic as humanly possible, so HS will get the best food possible.

I thought the boy had found HS in a local creek but his mom said they had a project in school and there were a number of crayfish in attendance and the boy said the crayfish were trying to pinch each other and he was upset by that. Interested children could put there name in a bowl and they drew names for the kids to each take one home and the boy was one of the lucky ones. He is such a good kid. It's hard to believe he is only going to be 10 this month. He is caring and inquisitive and just plain nice. I'm lucky to have him as a neighbor!! :)

I am so impressed that The Boy read the articles, talked to people, and researched info for himself.

Here is a plant, Anacharis, that I used in my community tank. It's inexpensive, fast growing, and can be used to float on top of the water, or it can be weighted down in the gravel.

Hot Sauce will love tearing it up and nibbling on it. A "toy" for him.

If Boy gets a clump of this plant, make sure it's not from a snail infested tank. It could be covered with snail eggs and he'll be picking snails out for-ev-er Ask me how I know this! :)

Just a suggestion, if he goes with a fish, I'd keep it small. Goldfish keep the water dirty, grow too quickly, and can be a mess.

One Siamese fighting fish with one pair of either small colorful tetras, mollies, or guppies might work. Less is more in smaller tanks. Hot Sauce needs about seven of the 10 gallons for himself.

I kept one Siamese fighting fish, seven Raspbora tetras and two Cory cats in a 15 gallon tank for years on end. I wouldn't put Cory cats in with HS. He's the bottom feeder.

I wonder why my update request did not bump the thread up? Oooops! Now it's bumped! :)

Hi everybody. Gosh it's been awhile since I have posted here. I pop in once in awhile but I have been very busy though that is no excuse not to check in with friends!

But checking on Hot Sauce was a good way to get back here. He is doing well. He does not have any fish friends, but enjoys making a mess of the plants and castle with his constant digging. Sounds like he is living the life........... :)

Once it stopped raining here I have been busy trying to get the gardens going again. I have only gotten a bit of the weeding done. I did get lots of new plants from a city wide yard sale that we had a few weeks ago. I love how cheap they all were. Most were divisions of their existing plants. Got some columbine, new varieties of hosta, some day lilies. Oh and my friend and next door neighbor gave me a big chunk of liriope that I divided into 4 good sized clumps. Then I spent a lot of time watering all these many plants I have to take care of now. LOL Be careful what you wish for......

Up at the farm we had a cleanup day for our riding trails. It was really hot and my job was cutting honeysuckle way back. I was wiped out for the next day just recovering. And every Thursday I am at our farmers market, so that keeps me plenty busy. I also contacted the realtor for a property down the street from me. I offered to keep the grass cut and she could pay me. She has agreed. So now, besides my yard, I have another to do every week. But it's relatively easy money, so I am happy with that.

Well, Carmelita is snorting at me. I guess that means she wants to go out. It's 11pm here and still 78º. I want to open the windows, but have had the a/c on all day. I probably better give it a rest, right?

I hope everyone is doing good and I will be back to check up on you all. Have a good night.
