Gail, I have no access to such a spot outside. Besides, I think the experts here will say that when you bring them in in the fall, you may bring in a few pests that you do NOT want.

Most people say it is not a good idea. I have never done it.

In general, I find most plants seem to "enjoy" being outside. (Not terribly surprising as there is nothing natural about growing them indoors.) While pests may find your plants outdoors, you can still have some finding them indoors. :)

I've known a number of folks down south who put their AVs and other plants outside for the summer.

Paul, you may be right about people further south taking their plants outside for the summer. I live further in the north. We had snow this past week. So, there it would be difficult to take plants outside just yet. There could be frost until about the 24th of May.
