I will take all suggestions! Cant turn the sofa though- its all open to the entry way and just looks very uninviting that way- we did try!

Agree with the comments regarding keeping the hide but placing on an angle. Also, love how it reiterates the fireplace surround. Very clever subliminal twist. Angle the chairs as someone had suggested. There are lots of levels and hard angles on the window wall. I would soften that area in several ways. Take everything off the bookcases and the radiator cover. I would replace with one single curvilinear piece on radiator cover that has some height and minimal depth. The addition of a textural quality atop the bookcases such as baskets (one on each bookcase) with good height and depth would be a nice addition. Also, I would do a top treatment (grass shades or something simple to add texture, bringing the treatment down to the first 1/3 area of the window. Very nice room. Great start.

If the back of the sofa looked uninviting toward the entry, did you try placing a nice sofa table/console behind it?

I dont care for layering rugs......I feel if the correct rug is selected one is 'good enough'

Very nice room....lots of feminine touches...cowhide looks a bit contradictory...also looks like a tripping hazard...I vote no to Elsie

the best placement for the sofa is likely to the right facing side of the sofa providing the photo was taken from the entry

Another post on the same room? This needed to be addressed in the other post on this room. While I like the break up on the sea of beige in this gorgeous room, the rug just sticks out like a sore thumb. love the rug but not in this setting.

I'm thinking the hide it there to add interest as the rug is so very simple, a patterned rug was a better call....what does Aja think.....she knows I tell it the way I see it and dont add comments to just make people feel good about their decisions

Thanks gary- you are correct that is definitely the best placement (tried that too) but there is a tv in the corner piece so the couch has to face it for comfort

I must admit, I'm not a fan of that rug at all. I'd like to see a beautiful Aubusson or something similar, in there. I feel it would give the room some warmth.

The room behind has a tv too but its the kids playroom- not comfortable. We dont have alot of options but i totally get your point. And you are correct- the main rug was left by the prior owners- too expensive to replace right now. Wanted something to add warmth softness and maybe a little more youth to the room but prob gonna remove the hide now

Gary, there are 3 different feeds on this. I too suggested the furniture arrangement that you had and I believe one other person did. Theresa mentioned she is open to suggestions.

Rugs on rugs: never a good idea. Here is what I immediately think: "I am so sorry you couldn't remove the stain and had to cover it."

Theresa, you've done a great job sifting through all of the suggestions. I have one more, if you don't mind. It is better to maintain only one feed on a given subject. The reason is miscommunication. When we can't read all of the comments and all of the replies, things become jumbled. The result is that people sometimes get frustrated and stop commenting, which, of course, you don't want.

If you start a new room, then it is appropriate to start a new feed. I hope this helps.

I know aja! We are looking at over 2k to change it though- its huge!! And the last time we had a nice rug in our apt in the city i found my daughter with an empty upside down bottle of red gatorade on top of it!! Also it matches the dining room rug which is all open- will post pics so may have to replace both!

no no no .....matching is not necessary, it seems the problem may be the choice of JUICE. Apple Juice is flavorful as well. I missed out on the stain.....sorry didnt know......

Is your floor under the rug okay?

Keep an eye on Craigslist. I have seen some great rugs there for sale and at very reasonable cost. There again, I seldom if ever, purchase anything new. I've actually seen Aubussons at garage sales. I have a huge one in my front room. Got it a few years ago at a garage sale for $200.

The floor under it is beautiful! I think kids may destroy a new rug unfortunately- at least the sisal hides spills etc. will post pics of dining room too- my next project

I am a triplet. My brothers and I grew up in a home with Persian Rugs and beautiful wood floors.

no cowhide - too casual for the other elements.

The cowhide adds whimsy, interest, and another layer of texture. It is a lovely room. I took some creative license and tweaked it a bit, the biggest changes, a periwinkle wall color and a contrast color binding around the rug (made a bit smaller to create more of a conversation area).

Photoshop - isn't it fabulous? It really helps my clients get a better visual of my ideas.

What if you just did the fireplace wall a different color? Is that tacky?

Theresa, I personally like the walls the shade you have them. I would not do an accent wall. I like the amount of blue you have right now. As I said in my post on your other feed, I would paint the mantle the shade of the stone.

Also, you might consider painting an adjacent room the powder blue. For example, the sun room.

Without...it becomes a competition with everything else pretty in the room.

I think it would look better without the cowhide.

In fact, with the change in wall color it is now easier to see the correlation between the hide and the stone shapes on the fireplace.

No. It is a quality couch and a slipcover does not do it justice. The brown on the couch grounds the are and goes well with your stone and I life how it complements the brick in the sun room.

Having said all that your brown sofa is very nice

I'd remove both the cowhide and the large area rug, and leave the floors bare, or go with a few smaller rugs for detail and texture contrast. Your current decor doesn't quite go with the stone around the fireplace - perhaps consider painting or covering it with temporary coverings until you're ready to change your decor again (or move).

Vote not to paint over your fireplace it adds Character to your room

I vote 'No' on the cowhide. Love the upholstery choice on your chairs! Works especially well with sofa color, too. Also, I was impressed at the difference made when the designer Photo Shop'd in a border around the edge of the rug. Really defined the area...

No cowhide, lose the lantern on the tray in the center of the room, pitch the two vases on the mantel. A nice white carpet would brighten the room tremendously the tan carpet is too blah and old looking. The bench seat in the center of the room should also have the wheels taken off. Find a place to put the kiddie toys. The blues and whites look nice perhaps white washing the exterior stone work on the fireplace would help.
