Macrophylla Var growing in water

Last winter my Mac wasn't looking that great. The roots weren't taking up enough water so I unpotted it, trimmed the roots and put it in a cup of water. It's doing great now with lots of new growth. So now I'm afraid to pot it. Is there any harm leaving it as is?
