It's either the solenoid or the diaphragm ...

Clean all the dirt and debris from
around the valve until you have exposed the whole body ... wash it down
with a squirt bottle. Get the part number off the valve and buy a replacement valve.

Remove the screws to take the whole bonnet (top of the valve) off, clean out any crud in the valve body, and
replace the whole top of the valve, including the diaphragm and
solenoid and seal rings from the new valve's parts. (you don't have to mess with the valve bottom, where the pipes attach).

It's far easier, cheaper, and by the time you have mucked around getting the
solenoid out and replaced you have usually damaged the seals and
diaphragm anyway.

thanks for all that info, as it turns out, the valve was not seated all the way down. When I cranked it into place. it solved my problem. Thanks for your time
