Don't look dead. Do look damaged. Was it too cold for this variety there? Otherwise unsuitable soil conditions are common problems with heath family plants like this. One you chose to show looks like it may be too deep. How long have these examples been in place?

We did not have a bad winter actually, it did get quite warm in March followed by some frost right after that.... They were purchased while in full bloom last spring and they were gorgeous.

You are indicating a low hardiness zone, suspect your winter climate is too much for this selection. I suggest checking zoning indicated by multiple references for this variety.

'Coral Bells' is a selection of Kurume evergreen azalea and is not considered hardy below zone 6.....and even that may be pushing it :-)

Unfortunately, local nurseries - and more particularly mass merchandisers like Home Depot, Costco and Walmart - do not always offer plants for sale that are climate appropriate. This is most likely the case with your azaleas.
