No microwave above stove. Not very safe. Also, the so called vents are not really useful or effective. Get a good exhaust fan and make sure it is properly vented. Find a spot below countertop for microwave. Much safer and much easier to use. Several models available. I don't see any photos in your Ideabooks. Suggest you look through some Houzz "kitchen remodels" and find things you like. It will help you tremendously. Also, kitchens are the most important spaces in a home, so do post your layouts and we can help you avoid common mistakes or give you some better insights on new ideas and concepts. Good luck!

If you have another place for the microwave a dedicated vent would be the best. A vent alone vents better. Also, the microwave over the range can create a jam around the range while cooking if some are using the microwave and others are using the range. It also gives the opportunity to do something a little pretty.

I am short and do not like lifting up or down anything potentially heavy and hot or leaning over a range that is on. I also find the cooking area cramped in some over the range micro set ups.

If you are really lacking in counter space, or none of the things I mentioned concern you, there is nothing wrong about an over the range microwave. Some place the microwave in a microwave shelf that is part of an upper cabinet. I had this for many years, but I began to find it a pain to have to step on a stool to handle anything heavy and my short daughters did not like it either, so I took it down and put in a plate rail:)

Always an actual hood fan if possible OTR microwaves are awful for venting .
