I agree with Flo. This won't take much:

-remove the 6" backsplash and replace with tile that reaches the cabinets

-remove the small rugs (unless you must have them for comfort)

-are those pendant lights by the window? If so, replace them with can lights

-hang updated pendants over the peninsula

-the phone and tv should have a "home"/not just sitting on the sink.

What is the dark area over the sink? I would remove the 2 small pictures.

Eww to white cabinets. As others have said, this kitchen looks very good. The wood and gray work nicely together and looks almost "designed" (not cookie cutter white/gray). There is some room for improvement though. Backsplash could be better, I like the idea of some "pop" of strong color and the pendants/hardware.

You are presented with some great ideas. Adding molding to the top of the cabinets that don't reach the ceiling & lighting above the wall cabinets will give you a brighter room. Definitely go with a pretty back splash. Add a pop of color...red or apple green or cobalt blue.

Your kitchen is beautiful the way it is, but I would remove the short backsplash and do a nice tiled backsplash. I'd also leave your floors alone.

Rethink gray floor stain. Gray floors are a trend, not timeless. Natural or lightly stained wood floors are more flexible style wise and are more classic and timeless. Most woods are not naturally gray. They get that way out in the weather. Living in a semi rural area - it's not impressive. It looks like barns that are falling over:)

I could be wrong, but the floors look "natural" finish to me?

Personally, I'd close the pass through into the other room, but you may like it. Light above the cabinets and something interesting for a backsplash, new sleek hardware, rather than knobs, and some adjustment to your other lights will be enough.

You are right jhmarie- I blew right by that comment! Agree with you, if the floors need refinishing, go with natural look. It is quite beautiful. No gray.
