As soon as i posted this, I was scrolling through the past blogs (???) and saw items about full water culture and the answers of the posters. Didnt check before. I will stick to tried and true.

Depends on what is water culture. One of the growers in a local orchid society is having success with this method.

Arthurm, that vase method is very intriguing, would the humidity from the bottom be enough without watering through the medium or do you thing you would still water the medium and the water below is just a humidity increase? I am having a hard time getting the right amount of moisture in the bark and this looks like it would be neat, but I worry that I might end up keeping it too moist and induce root rot.

I do not use this method, the idea is that it is supposed to keep the medium moist but not a swamp as the evaporation from the water below through the mixture stops it from drying too quickly.

Note that there is a gap between the bottom of the pot and the water in the base of the vase. Other methods seem to have the Phal. roots in water.
