Surprise under my potted Clematis

A mourning dove (Zenaida macroura) set up a nest and laid one egg under my Clematis in a container. I am elated discovering this. Wanted to share this with everyone on the clematis forum.

So sweet! We have a lot of mourning dove here, and I looked them up just now and it said they will abandon their nest if humans or other predators get near it. So be careful!

I'm going to look around to see if I can find where they're nesting. :)

wow ! I guess they don't lay eggs all at once ? Now that I think about it my cockatiel used to lay within a few days of each other .. Birds are so neat! Our barn swallows return every year , I don't know how they know or remember our house . They reuse their nest . Last years broke down pretty badly and just this week they repairs it good as new and built a second smaller one too . They are interesting birds ! I'll get photos when they babies hatch , and share them .

This location was too much in the open. So I brought out a hibiscus plant that was overwintering inside my house to give the dove family some privacy! Before, each time I open the patio door to the deck, the mother/father bird doing the egg sitting would fly away. Since I put the hibiscus plant, they stay put. I am thinking that the strategy is working.

Great idea! I thought of you yesterday evening when I was looking at the roses and saw a M. Dove standing in the driveway. We have a row of evergreens for a north wind block and I bet that's where they nest.

Wow, nice job. There was a robin's nest in one of my backyard bush, close to the backyard door. The same happened, every time I opened the door, the mother bird flew away. Then we stopped going until they hatched. I even stopped the lawn guy from going near the bush and mowing or trimming it!!:-)

I have a pair in my pine tree. And I love the sound they make and the way they strut around. Probably my favorite bird.
